"This system software update improves system performance." - 440 Mb.

nitus101738d ago

Yes, it is so difficult waiting two minutes to update the system software. 😎

Note: Downloading system software is done in the "background" and does not impact gaming. It is only the actual update that requires a reboot and you the player gets to decide when that happens.

dantesparda1738d ago

Ugh, im so sick and tired of this stability updates! When are we going to get some new features Sony? its been yrs since the last time we did. MS still adds features til date and they got way more features than the PS4. Sony is lame as sh1t about this. Finish adding all the features that are still missing and needed already.

UltraNova1738d ago

MS keeps updating the OS while terminating 1st party game support for years before the gen ends while Sony doesn't brother all that much with OS updates but keeps supporting their console to the very end.

Well I know which approach I prefer.

sizeofyou1738d ago

In all fairness, there's been little added to Xbox in last few years I've had much interest in. And it runs like a rusty chain. I hate the interface with a passion. It's a chore to look at anything and the button lag is horrible.
Rather have a stable responsive PS4 personally.

Father__Merrin1739d ago

these are always just driver updates and fixes nothing more

rainslacker1739d ago

Yeah, but people like mocking Sony over them as if the other companies dont do the same thing.

nitus101738d ago (Edited 1738d ago )

My PC runs Linux (ie. Fedora 30, KDE spin) and a system update can be automatically set to daily, weekly, monthly or I can do the update manually (my prefered method). Sure I can make the process automatic but that is IMHO stupid. Even when downloading an update (ie. in the background) anything I am doing is not interrupted which is exactly the same when a PS4 gets an update.

Once an update has occurred I only need to reboot if I get a new kernel or my windows system (In this case. KDE) is updated and even then I decided when to reboot (the PS4 is no different) and a one minute wait is not that onerous.

Note: It must be noted that all Linux distributions are similar although to the casual user they can appear radically different. The operating system of the PS4 is a modified version of BSD Unix (ie. FreeBSD) called "Orbis OS" and Linux is closely related.

rainslacker1738d ago

Yep. Updates are pretty fluid nowadays, and all systems will have some updates which may glitch once in a while. I have my PS4 set to download the updates automatically, but I have to manually install them. I've yet to have an issue with an install, and outside the really big ones that take maybe 5 minutes to install, most takes 1-2 minutes every month or so. The little one's take maybe 30 seconds, and most of it is the rebooting of the system.

Mega ultimate system performance

criticalkare1739d ago

Thank god i can download this one with no problem 6.71 was pain in the ass...

Crazyglues1739d ago (Edited 1739d ago )

It's because it had problems, so I think after the complaints started coming in they started limiting the download... to maybe give them time to check out the problems / -but for me I have learned if it's not mandatory, meaning I don't have to update to get online, then I don't..

I just wait for the must update, those usually are better tested and more stable, In my experience.

Wish they would fix controllers randomly disconnecting

Knushwood Butt1739d ago

They fixed that for me, wait, I've never had it.

DigitalDaniel1738d ago

All manufactured equipment got a certain percentage of failed units. So this whole " wait, I never had it" comment is silly. Just be happy you're not one of the few unlucky ones instead

nitus101738d ago

@DigitalDaniel

You are quite right that all manufactured equipment has a certain percentage of failed units, however, like "@Knushwood Butt" I have never had this problem with my two PS4 controllers and one is over four years old.

I have done a Google search on this ("ps4 controller dropping out") and I did get over 20 million hits so there are obviously some issues, although (from the first page) most fixes just required a PS4 reboot and in the worst cases a new controller.

BTW. It is important to realize that the player can configure their controllers to disconnect at 10, 30, 60 minutes of inactivity or not to turn off so some of these so-called disconnects can easily be rectified by pressing the PS button.

Stanjara1739d ago

Maybe you bought a fake Dualshock 4, and it disconnects after 10 min

nitus101738d ago (Edited 1738d ago )

It is possible to set up your controller to disconnect after 10 (this is my prefered setting), 30, 60 minutes or not at all. Please go into your "Settings" --> "Power Saving Settings" and make appropriate changes.

If changing your disconnect times (you can select "no Disconnect") does not fix your problem then it may be time for a new controller although I would investigate further before taking this step (Google is your friend). A fake DS4 is definitely a red flag though.

Snipurr1739d ago

Agreed. This happens to me as well. Its really random and irritating honestly. Theres no warning sign, it just disconnects.

phoenixwing1739d ago (Edited 1739d ago )

@snipurr

you're not alone it happens to me sometimes but i'm not really irritated takes like a second to reconnect then it's fine for the rest of the time. I think it's because my playstation 4 sits sideways though

nitus101738d ago

What is the timeout setting on your DS4 controller?

If dropouts are really random then it may be time to return your DR4 if still under warranty or purchase a new one although I suggest some faultfinding first. Please go into your "Settings" --> "Power Saving Settings" and make appropriate changes.

DaCajun1739d ago

Do you have your controller's communication method setting set to "Use USB Cable"?

I tend to have random disconnects with my controller if my PS4 is set to that and it is plugged into the PS4 via USB even though it is a CUH-ZCT2 series controller that is recommended. So I keep it on "Use Bluetooth" setting for Communication Method and don't have any issues. I was happy when they added the USB communicate method hoping for faster controller responses for certain games but it has never worked right for me on my PS4 PRO. I just bought a new controller, so I might have to give it another try to see if it was just my old controller with an issue. Also you need to use the actual PS4 USB cable because some cheap 3rd party cables don't work correctly with the PS4 or it's controllers.

Not sure if that's your issue but that is one of the reasons why some people get random controller disconnects.

SierraGuy1739d ago

If you have an external HDD plugged into USB 3.0 port ...disconnect it when not needed.

Bluetooth interference occurs.

frostypants1739d ago (Edited 1739d ago )

@SierraGuy how would a Bluetooth radio signal and a wired USB signal interfere with each other?

SierraGuy1739d ago

The drive I have uses a USB 3.0 connection, and that particular connection creates a noise in its cabling and device that can interfere with the specific frequency that Bluetooth devices use.

Gladiator’s Arena review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Even though the Vampire Survivors influenced ‘auto shooter’ genre isn’t long in the tooth, I’m still surprised that it has taken this long for a Roman gladiator-themed rendition to come along – especially with a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 box office hit Gladiator imminent. It’s thematically perfect, with its circular arena in which one man stands alone against hordes of enemies, grabbing loot as they survive one wave to the next."
