Bruce Straley, game director of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, has criticised some gameplay decisions in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The freedom to explore large areas, approach objectives in multiple ways, and stumble across amusing distractions will always be an excellent format for video games, but some do it better than others. To celebrate the formula and parse the best from the best, have a look at the best open-world games of all time so far.
General Stability Fixes and Improvements. Upgrade for PC version, and more.
Console players get screwed this time instead of PC. I'll only buy Rockstar Games now on PC because they got too savvy with how much milkage they can get away with.
And I'll wait till it's on sale
And I'll probably wait till private servers are avaliable.
GTA VI looks great but impending 30fps for the next 5 years just doesn't sound all that great these days.
Also take RDR2 out to the back pasture already if you aren't actually gonna give us the update your fans want.
Scumbags
How hard is it to put 60fps on current gen consoles.. damn it would make a massive difference.. so lazy!!
Wish Rockstar would just uncap the frame rate for Ps5 / xsx
It was long rumoured there was a next gen version coming but we're at the half way point and it's still not here.
Not everything has to be a remake the game was and still is phenomenal on PS4 backwards compatibility I'd be happy with the current resolution and fidelity just uncap that frame rate
Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 are both classics, but movement and general interaction sometimes feels like you're possessed by a fridge.
Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…
The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.
Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games
I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
It's so amazing how the story can alter your perception of a topic based on a headline. After digging through the Twitter comments, I get the complaint that a game that's open world can feel a little off-balance when story missions kind of give you the freedom to move but are not designed to go too far off the rails. R* still is archaic in some ways, but it's still pretty difficult to bring that true cinematic experience into the open world but I think they were getting pretty close there.
He's absolutely right on this.
“They need me to do what the story requires [and] continually remove my choices. The [environment] was open [and] I had the skills, but they punished me for thinking for myself instead of rewarding me.” I feel his pain. Happened to me sometimes as well.
“I want to continue thinking of how to honor the mechanics and opportunities we’ve afforded the player-not wedging them into sequences I felt would be epic because of some story outcome”
Right on, Bruce. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
Most ironic thing I have heard this generation.
I agree with this. There were too many times when I failed the mission because I wanted to flank. I would get the "You abandoned Dutch" or some such message and the mission would insta-fail. That's bad design in an open world game.
