Hypocritical UK Government Pushing New Internet Spying Legislation

Gadgehit writes: "UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, is facing a huge backlash over plans to allow the government to monitor all forms of electronic communication under new legislation. The new legislation is expected to be announced next week, and will allow the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ) to monitor any phone call, text message, email, and website accessed, in real time without a warrant."

I hope to God that this doesn't go through because the amount of privacy invasion is ridiculous in this legislation. You can tell that the government is just trying to push the legislation as they have London riots as an excuse now.

This is where the Liberal Democrats stop being pussies and shout down the Conservatives, this is why they are in the Government. Does the word liberal in their own party name mean nothing to them now?

This legislation would be anything but liberty or protection of human rights.

I absolutely demand Clegg step up on this issue and speak for his party and the public at large instead of happily going along with this crap the conservatives no doubt thought up in order to just preserve his power.

If he doesn't, then the coalition may as well just be renamed Tories + hanger on

On the BBC article, I read that they do need a warrant though http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/u...

"A new law - which may be announced in the forthcoming Queen's Speech in May - would not allow GCHQ to access the content of emails, calls or messages without a warrant.

But it would enable intelligence officers to identify who an individual or group is in contact with, how often and for how long. They would also be able to see which websites someone had visited."

It sounds like if they get a warrant for one person, they can then monitor anyone that person is in contact with as well, without a warrant.
