The two aspirations converge with Hauppauge's latest product, Broadway. The idea here isn't exactly novel, but with few exceptions Sling Media has been left to dominate the placeshifting category. The Broadway picks up where Sling kicked off, adding WiFi and more interestingly, shedding the need for costly clients, instead using a built-in web server to access the live video streams. Examiner: With Sling Media’s Slingbox dominating the market for set-top boxes that stream TV, Hauppauge has produced a $199 competitor that while not perfect, does some things well.
The Hauppauge Broadway has two antennas and looks like a Wi-Fi router, right down to the average size of one, with a handful of ports on its backside. Users will find an RF coax input, an IR output, two USB ports, an Ethernet jack, a button for Wi-Fi functionality and A/V inputs (composite and S-Video).
Examiner: Hauppauge announced today that its TV streamer for the iPad/iPhone 'Broadway', now gets TV-recording functionality.
Broadway currently allows users to connect the standalone box to an antenna or cable/satellite receiver in order to stream content to an iPad or iPhone. With the new feature, Broadway will now record TV programs locally and then stream it to an iOS device.
