Republic Wireless to launch $19 unlimited voice, SMS and data service

Gigaom - For those who have played around with the combination of Wi-Fi and voice calling known as UMA, the idea behind Republic Wireless is no different from the Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA)-based service bundled in some T-Mobile BlackBerry devices. T-Mobile also has UMA available on some Android phones. When inside the office or your home or inside a Wi-Fi hot-spot, all phone calls and text messages are sent and received via the Internet. When there is no Wi-Fi, the calls are routed over a cellular network.

How to get unlimited wireless for $19 a month

N10: "Have a look at your smartphone bill. You're paying what, 75, 80 bucks a month?

So you'd figure I was peddling snake oil if I told you that you could pay as little as $19 a month (plus tax) for an Android smartphone that provides unlimited voice, data and text - without having to sign the customary wireless contract."

$19 a Month For Unlimited Phone Service

Tech Corner:
It’s November 19th, 2012 and a small company by the name of Republic Wireless just opened up its doors to the public. Well, Republic has existed for a little over a year but they just now closed their private beta and opened the doors to all who wish to have unlimited phone service for a very low $19 a month. Republic is an MVNO (mobile virtual network provider) provider as they don’t actually own a cellular network because they are piggy-backing off of Sprint’s 3G network. So as long as you are okay with Sprint coverage then you will be okay with Republic Wireless coverage. In a nutshell, Republic is offering unlimited talk, text and data, all for just $19 a month. No overages, contracts, or hidden charges. Just great phone service at the lowest monthly rate in America.

I wonder how much it costs to call a person using this service?

SalvatoreLeone4544d ago

That's pretty cheap. There has to be some downside...

Speed-Racer4544d ago

Hopefully they don't raise prices later on thouugh.

If market right, look out Verizon/Tmobil etc.

Anyway, in alot of ways, this can be perfect for me as I don't talk alot on the phone so when Not around a wifi connection, 550 of Sprint mins sounds decent unless Im missing something.
