ICANN is close to approving the addition of more Top Level Domains (TLDs), this time with the focus on brand-specific names such as Coca Cola, Apple, New York City and Marlboro.
FleshEatingZipper says: "ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) just voted and passed a plan to launch new gTLD’s (generic top level domain) for businesses costing $185,000. It’s really cool and all but I don’t think it will be popular for a while. Why? Let me tell you."
Yeah I was reading about this yesterday. $185,000 to register the branded domain THEN you have to pay $25,000 a year after that? No thank you. I can only see .walmart .microsoft .apple and .google popping up.
