Got an iPhone or 3G iPad? Apple is recording your moves

O'Reilly Media writes:

All iPhones appear to log your location to a file called "consolidated.db." This contains latitude-longitude coordinates along with a timestamp. The coordinates aren't always exact, but they are pretty detailed. There can be tens of thousands of data points in this file, and it appears the collection started with iOS 4, so there's typically around a year's worth of information at this point.

People are making a big deal over nothing. I've read that it was known info but just not known on a wide scale, hence the media agencies are blowing up on it now.

Well, how else am I supposed to keep track of everyone for my Ho'Phone/Eastcoast edition YouXXXTube channel?

I could never remember all my B _ _ _ _ Calls without it!

Seriously. It sounds like an easy thing to securely erase or edit if you're really concerned, and EVERY phone tracks! Ask any digital forensics expert. You don't even need GPS, and it really doesn't take more power as the signal is triangulated from cell phone towers...a function your phone already uses to maintain it's cell connection.

This is the very basis for "cell" technology...moving from one cell to the next and more importantly, automatically detecting based on signal strength, when you should.

The database likely used is called "Skyhook" and it's available for use by developers for Android or Apple's iOS,
