StreakSmart - Yes, you read that right. The Dell Streak 7 has hidden phone functions and can sort of make calls.
That's the secret phone app you're looking at above. It's nothing fancy because the UI either isn't enabled or simply isn't in the system, but a dialer from whatever keyboard you're using will appear when you tap the bar below the Tablet, Call log, Contacts, and Favorites tabs at the top and let you input a phone number. Dashes are automatically inserted too.
AppSplit: "If you own a Dell Streak 5 and waiting anxiously for a Gingerbread update then you are in luck today, as Dell has officially released the Gingerbread update for the Dell Streak 5. You can simply download the update file [155 MB] that is available on Dell’s website"
Pocket-Lint: The Dell Streak 7 has finally reached the UK, having been available in the USA since the beginning of February on T-Mobile USA.
The Dell Streak 7, is the bigger brother of the Dell Streak 5 and will cost £299 without contract – incidentally the same price as the Samsung Galaxy Tab after a bevy of price drops in recent months.
Walter Mossberg of WSJ and All Things Digital writes: "If you could get a tablet for the price of a smart phone, and if it also worked on one of the new, faster, 4G-class cellular networks, you’d jump at the chance, right? Dell and T-Mobile hope so, and that’s why they’ve brought out the Dell Streak 7, at just $200 with a two-year service contract."
