Ping Surpasses 1 Million Users

Mashable: In less than two days, Apple’s Ping music social network has surpassed the 1 million user milestone.

Apple introduced Ping as the centerpiece of iTunes 10 at its music event earlier this week. It is a music-centric social network where users can follow updates from both their friends and their favorite music artists. It includes custom song and album charts, a news feed and 17,000+ concert listings.

Apple to shut down music social network Ping

ItProportal: Ping, Apple's laughable attempt at a social network, will be shut down with the next major release of iTunes, according to a report.

The social network, billed by Cupertino as "sort of like Facebook and Twitter meets iTunes," will apparently be phased out in favour of integration with those two existing, and much more successful, social media channels.
