Hot Hardware: Asetek and liquid cooling solutions go hand-in-hand; the company has been in the business of keeping gaming rigs cool for years now, and they're one of the most respected names in the sector.
Liquid cooling system maker Asetek just threatened to make one of the hottest graphics cards of 2015 even hotter—by taking away its cooling system.
GamersNexus: "The trial can be boiled down to Cooler Master's usage of a coldplate-mounted liquid cooling pump, something for which Asetek holds a patent. Cooler Master's Seidon, Nepton, and Glacier liquid coolers use a pump atop the cold plate, which the court ruled to be patent infringement committed against Asetek. Cooler Master also makes AMD's R9 Fury X liquid cooling solution, which has interesting possibilities for the AMD product; it is yet unclear if the Fury X will be affected by the court ruling against Cooler Master, but the design is similar enough for there to be concern. The Fury X CLC hosts its pump atop the coldplate, which is the heart of these patent lawsuits."
GamersNexus: "All this known, Asetek has initiated suit against Cooler Master for its new Seidon sealed-liquid CPU coolers, which we briefly mentioned in a previous TechRAID episode; Asetek's legal department claims to have issued a C&D to CM back in November, citing infringement upon their patented liquid cooling design (to include the pump). The patents—8245764 and 8240362—are both to protect Aseteks' use of a pump connected by hose to a radiator in a closed, non-maintained loop. If this statement comes off as slightly tinged with sarcasm, that's because it is.
