Using Your Arm as a Touch Panel; Detecting Position with Audio Sensors

"The user interface is getting harder and harder to handle as portable equipment shrinks. I want to solve that problem," says Chris Harrison, a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University of the US.

Harrison and researchers from Microsoft Research Corp. of the US have developed a technology named "Skinput" that makes it possible to use your hands and arms as touch panels. Harrison explained that they have prototyped a working system.
