Do you think that it's because there's no viable need for a 65" 8K TV?

After all these years even the biggest events still aren't broadcast in 4k or even 1080p sometimes. If this were Japan it would be great. In America 8k is a waste of money and probably will be for another ten years. Unless you have to have the 5 games that will support it in the next 5 years.

Even then... Most people don't sit close enough to their televisions to fully resolve 1080p. 4K ideal seating locations for a 65" are MUCH closer than what most people use. 8K vs. 4K *for most* people is kind of like choosing between eating 60oz. of steak or 240oz. Most just aren't going to be sitting three feet from their 65" telelvisions. That said, the processors should be nice and will hopefully handle motion and other elements better so progress is still progress. I can't say that in most situations from my sofa that I would choose 8K over 4K for gaming --- this is a performance hit where I would favor putting the processing power on graphical quality and framerate over the resolution increase pretty much every time. I sit close enough to my 4K that I will actually choose 4K over 1080p/performance for a number of games. I just can't say I would do the same between 4K & 8K. VR... Might be a different story there.
