Not practical atm, we need to advance 2 or 3 generations in engine design before a mars colony or even a manned visit to mars is even worth attempting, it would be doable if you could shrink the travel time to 2-3 weeks, but 6 months is way too damn long to be traveling in space for humans with our current technology and be able to function still.
Long term we are going to have to find a way to simulate gravity so our muscles and bones don't waste away in outer space.
I occasionally read my kids this book from 1985. In it they successfully land their rocket back down from the moon using essentially this technique. Whenever I read it, I find it crazy to think my kids will just grow up thinking of course you can reuse your rocket and land like this.
Hope the launch will be success
Mars plz
