Are two RX 480s faster than a single GTX 1080?

Arstechnica - I love a good PR stunt or outlandish claim as much as the next guy. You know the type—where a company decides that the best way to tell people about a new product is to slaughter a few goats and serve fake entrails up to guests or to declare that a certain developer is going to make you his bitch. Imagine my delight, then, when AMD's Raja Koduri took to the stage during the unveiling of the RX 480 to say that, with two of them in Crossfire, they were faster than Nvidia's GTX 1080 and would cost far less. Everyone was intrigued.

Nice Read, But from what I've learned in the process of Building my Gaming PC is that getting 1 Powerful Graphic Card is better than Combining 2.

I'm personally going with GTX 1070 and if somethings work out as i hope they would, i'd go with the 1080.

Why not go for the GTX 1080 straightaway ?

freshslicepizza2851d ago

umm, most likely cost? there is quite a huge gap in pricing between the two. i myself would lean more towards the 1070 because it looks to offer better value but the 1080 is the best card out there for sure but that is if you get into 4k gaming. both are probably overkill for 1080p gaming.

"1 Powerful Graphic Card is better than Combining 2."
thats true..not to mention some games have really bad/no support for SLI/crossfire. the other disadvantage is that it leaves less room to upgrade.

FlyingFoxy2851d ago

Not to mention micro stutter, as well as the bad support..

Pascal Titan is already rumoured to be released not very long from now, though it will probably be stupidly priced as usual.. the sensible option should be the high end Ti variant between the 2.

1070 is a solid card, pretty much the same as a 980Ti. 1080 isn't a whole lot quicker and costs a fair bit more too.. But yea as always 1 single card is best. People who go dual card are mainly wanting high frame rates at 4k but the perf is not there yet for 4k anyway and they have to deal with multi gpu issues.. Saying that, these single high end cards should dominate most games at 1440p even.
