Greg Wyler’s audacious vision for connecting the world via a 720-satellite constellation, rooted in part by time spent in Africa hooking up remote villages with terrestrial links, has no successful precedent.
Satellite Internet startup OneWeb Satellites has completed the preliminary design review for its 700-satellite constellation and expects to have its entire satellite subcontractor team committed by by early August, Chief Operating Officer Eric de Saintignon said June 30.
Satellite builder Thales Alenia Space on Dec. 10 said it had contracted with satellite broadband provider O3b Networks to build eight additional O3b medium-Earth-orbit satellites, a move that will bring the O3b constellation to 20 spacecraft by mid-2018.
