Goodbye and good riddance to Windows 8

MWEB TechnoZone writes: "There will not be too many tears shed over the demise of Windows 8.

Microsoft's use of the song 'Express Yourself' in the launch commercial ranks among the few memorable moments of the operating system, scheduled to be replaced by Windows 10 in the coming weeks. Fact is, Windows 8 was an even greater failure than one of its most catastrophic predecessors, Vista."

Sorry but I do not share your view on Windows 8. It has been one of the best OS's Microsoft have released. Apart from the start menu that took some getting used too or that could be removed with a simple app.

the problem with windows 8 was the learning curve that came along with it. while it wasnt a steep one (depending on your technical skills), most people couldnt be bothered to put in the time and effort. but when it comes to windows and its popularity, you have to give the people what they want, not what you think they want.

windows 8/8.1 under the hood was fantastic. but nobody got to experience that coz getting around the OS was such a handful it actually took longer to get things done.

windows 10 on the other hand has all the positives of windows 8/8.1 with none of the negatives, and that learning curve has been removed completely. this is what makes windows 10 better than 8.

Totally agree with you SonZeRo. Windows 8.1 for me was really great but apparently it was too hard to master for the common user. See, I am a PC gamer so I knew how to do all the stuff without needing a start button or whatever else people were complaining about. What I saw as a step forward was the notifications in the UI and the faster boot times. Also, my move to windows 8 did not break any games for me and I was able to use all my programs which is a big deal since I am into programming and development. I saw no learning curve but apparently others did.

I am not a pc noob but moving on to Win 8 for the first time made me struggle more that I would have like to. It's like everything is new again and getting a simple task done is becoming a hassle. I hated it and continue with 7.

A couple years later, getting a new laptop, there was barely anything else but Win 8.1. Was skeptical at first due to 8 but man...8.1 is how they should have released it in the first place, not 8! So much better and simpler overall, faster boot and best of all, Metro UI is treated as secondary to classic desktop unlike 8! That is how it should have been from the start. Metro is the downfall of 8!

Now if Win 10 is anything like 8.1, just better, bring it on!

i been using the windows 10 TP since feb. trust me, its miles better than 8.1. windows 10 is basically the windows everyone knows and is familiar with. under the hood, i would say its improved. very low on system resources.

just to give you an idea of how lightweight the OS is im using it on a 10 year old pc.

AMD athlon 4000+ (single core)
4GB DDR400 RAM
80GB HDD windows
60GB HDD linux
Nvidia GT610 1GB graphics

and it works just fine. even multitasking is no hassle. before that i had linux mint. now im dual booting but i made 10 my primary OS.

if windows 8 had shipped with the start button non of this issues would of been around imo.
i think that windows 8 is solid and i have never had any issues with it.

but i have also had the last month or so with win10 and its awesome.

windows 10 is what microsoft shouldve made instead of wasting our time with windows 8 and 8.1.

With programs if you bring up Win9, it comes up with Windows 95 and Windows 98.

The other bonus is it puts it on par with Apple's OS X (Ten).
