House Science Committee guts NASA Earth sciences budget

Yesterday, by a party-line vote, Republicans in the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology approved a budget authorization for NASA that would see continued spending on Orion and the Space Launch System but slash the agency's budget for Earth sciences. This vote follows the committee's decision to cut the NSF's geoscience budget and comes after a prominent attack on NASA's Earth sciences work during a Senate hearing, all of which suggests a concerted campaign against the researchers who, among other things, are telling us that climate change is a reality.

I guess hear no evil see no evil when it comes to climate change.

What part of "NASA" includes studying global warming?I thought the "science was settled"?

No matter, we have the EPA, NOAA and every other tax payer funded organization studying "climate change".

Meanwhile we outsource our production to countries like China who continue to produce pollution as massive levels. But by all means continue to regulate our domestic industry.

'What part of "NASA" includes studying global warming?'

The part that falls under Earth Sciences.

'I thought the "science was settled"?'

The science is settled on many things in the world. Ie caner sucks, but does that mean that we should stop funding initiatives to further study it in relation to how we can mitigate / overcome it? The same applies here.

As for China fortunately there is this, a big step in the right direction.

Exactly. It's The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, not the NOAA.

If they can attach the words "climate change" or "evolution" to something, you'll be called "anti-science" if you don't give it full funding.

I don't want NASA working on BS climate change... the Earth will be fine... we are the ones going away

SilentNegotiator3274d ago

"the Earth will be fine... we are the ones going away "

And you honestly find that to be a comforting idea?

Cueil3274d ago

yes... sometimes it's how I make it through the day

These agencies that cry climate change refuse to give their data to independent institutions for verification. That is why congress acted that way. Why all the secrecy? If it's science other institutions will get the same result. Look up climategate to read e-mails from climate scientist asking each other for tips on faking data. I'm personally a believer in conserving nature and making sure businesses are compliant to laws that protect nature, but these scientist need to stop faking data and tackle other ecological problems and find ways to make modern living more earth friendly.
