Nvidia's Shield console won me over, but not for the reasons you think

The Nvidia Shield didn’t exactly get a warm reception at its unveiling on Tuesday night. While Nvidia was flouting its lightweight console as the future of video games, the gaming press was chortling on Twitter about the hardware limitations, and pointing out the lagginess in Nvidia’s Grid streaming games service. At $200, they said, why not save up a little more for an Xbox One or Playstation 4 that can play modern games natively?

Jared Newman explains why this is exactly the gaming and media box the industry has been waiting for—though not for the reasons that Nvidia wants.
