Maximum PC: The fourth quarter of 2014 saw 80.8 million PC shipments, representing a year-on-year decline of 2.4 percent, according to the number crunchers at International Data Corporation (IDC). That was enough to beat out expectations of a 4.8 percent decline, which was helped by a strong finish to the year -- the holiday quarter was the only one in which shipments topped 80 million units in 2014. It was especially good for HP, which virtually closed the gap in market share with Lenovo.
