Maximum PC: Intel already used the Consumer Electronics Show as a platform to introduce its newest 5th Generation Core micro-architecture (14nm Broadwell), but that's not all it wanted to show off. On a somewhat smaller scale, Intel today introduced its Compute Stick, a $149 dongle that turns your HDMI display into a low-power Windows 8.1 PC. And though it may seem similar to media streaming devices like Amazon's Fire TV stick, you can do more with Intel's device.
Digitimes: Intel is planning to upgrade its Compute Stick and NUC solutions to feature Skylake processors starting October and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), Gigabyte Computer, Asustek Computer and ASRock are expected to launch related products. Intel is also expected to launch related end products.
Intel Computer Stick, the smallest computer in the world can now be found on almost all of the countries. The device measures just 10 cm, running on Windows and Linux and transforms into a functional PC on screen or any TV with an HDMI cable only. Intel Compute Stick is equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for connecting to peripherals and the Internet.
Intel’s new Compute Stick, available for about $150 with Windows 8.1 and $110 with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, takes the mini desktop concept about as far as it can go. The Stick isn’t even really a “desktop” in the traditional sense, since it’s an HDMI dongle that hangs off the back of your monitor instead of sitting on your desk.
