New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced ceiling tariffs of dedicated broadband lines, mainly used by business houses and telecom operators, by up to 60 per cent.
Last year, Facebook's Internet.org found itself at the center of India’s net neutrality debate. Over 1 million people wrote to TRAI, the country's Telecom and internet regulator, to share their thoughts on the subject during the comment period last spring.
T2:
Telecom regulator Trai has extended the date till December 16 for submitting comments on a new model to operationalise BharatNet, which aims to connect all 2.5 lakh panchayats in the country through broadband.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has reportedly rejected the highly unpopular demand from telecom operators to ask companies that run apps like WhatsApp and Skype to share their revenues with them and the government. This comes as a major blow to network operators which are funnily enough, claiming to be suffering from annual losses of around Rs 5000 crore due to non-regulation of such applications.
This is insane. Service providers should try improving their business model instead of asking for profits from other firms.
