The Mathematics Of Murder: Should A Robot Sacrifice Your Life To Save Two?

It happens quickly—more quickly than you, being human, can fully process.
A front tire blows, and your autonomous SUV swerves. But rather than veering left, into the opposing lane of traffic, the robotic vehicle steers right. Brakes engage, the system tries to correct itself, but there’s too much momentum. Like a cornball stunt in a bad action movie, you are over the cliff, in free fall.

I think people would want the car to have an algorithm to value of their lives against other people.

So that means children or people with a cold is worth less then a healthy person...

Only thing is that the system would be much quicker than any human, and as such there would be no swerving but immediate slowdown and halt to the side of the road. Additionally, the other autonomous vehicles would also respond in appropriate and preservative ways to prevent a collapse and to prevent anyone going off a cliff.

I envisioned Will Smith saying this. IRobot was awesome.

what if it is a medical doctor vs 2 drugged out losers or something like that. I think that darwinism should be apart of the equation letting the person who reacts the quickest live.

just saying who gets to decide who's worth more though, someone has to programme said robots... And it's no one's right to play god so everyone should be valued equally. The only potential deciding factor could be injuries sustained and who is significantly more likely to survive. I.e: Two people pinned in a car one say impaled with a piece of metal. The other with a few fractures, unconscious but otherwise no serious damage. The latter is the most sensible choice not because you're giving them greater value as a human but simply because your choice is "high chance of no one surviving" vs "chance of at least one surviving.

I think there are already rules in place about laws, principles and ethics about robotics with liabilities of robot actions included.
