Study finds that Internet Trolls are terrible people in real life

Vyralize: A study conducted by University of Manitoba research students Erin E. Buckels, Paul D. Trapnell, and Delroy L. Paulhus has claimed that Internet Trolls exhibit much higher levels of sadism, narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy in real life. These traits are classified as under a category called “Dark Tetrad” traits. They also found a direct correlation between the amount of time they spent making comments on the Internet and between all traits except narcissism.

I don't know that people having bad lives is relevant or makes them a troll, not everyone is that way inclined.
