While this doesn't offend me, it IS extra strength dumb. Gift from God my ass, it's a gift from extremely smart people...the kind of smart people who are often ridiculed by the more extremist religious types and would've been held back if not for the waning influence of religion over the years.
Religion has a capacity for good in terms of the ideas presented being able to influence people positively...but it's dogma and tradition is ultimately very backward and makes for a great deal of ignorance (Earth only thousands of years old etc).
Some religious types always point to science not being able to explain everything....yes, that's kind of the point. You don't get to just say "God did it" and leave it at that with science, theories have to be tested and evaluated based on actual hard facts and evidence. When scientists are confronted with difficult questions, they set out to try and uncover the answers. With religion, it's "God works in mysterious ways", and other non-committal claptrap.

No it didn't. God didn't magically create the Internet. It took years and years and lots of smart and ambitious people to create the Internet we have now. God had no hand in helping the Internet become what it is today.

It's called science. Something that, in the past, was deemed as unholy, demonic, etc to the Church. Heck, it was even labeled as witchcraft, and people were burned for it.

He's nailing most issues, and making the fundie christians go crazy, and he's way more progressive than some of the ass hats since John Paul the 2nd.

Maybe he was just using it as a term of expression than literally. (reading the article makes this almost painfully clear)
He really likes the internet and the communities that are brought together by it, not to mention the social awareness it allows, following Syria, Kiev, Egypt, etc., allowing the global community to see what is actually happening, while shitty news stations choose to report on garbage like Beiber and Kanye.

There is no evidence that the universe was created by anything and the laws of the universe have not changed since the big bang. Therefore the claim that the internet was created by an entity or entities whose existence there's no evidence for has no weight what so ever. It is wise to only believe in something if there is substantial evidence to support it. People use this logic on a daily basis. I'm sure most theists and deists wouldn't get their insurance from a company without a proven track record. They wouldn't invest in a company that was likely to fail. So why believe in some "higher power" that there is absolutely no evidence for? Personally, I think most people can't accept that there is not afterlife or that they won't see their loved ones again after they die and they want to believe that some higher power is constantly looking out for them because it brings them comfort. It is extremely probable that there is no afterlife and that there is no higher power looking out for you. I accepted this when I was 14 and I moved on. So live life to the full because you only get one.

Stumbling into this a couple of days later, it's pretty depressing to see this expected rage showing about as much logic in their frustration as the people they're criticizing (not everyone here though, just most). It's just a genuine applause to the Internet using his rationale of God giving certain men the talents to create such technological advances like the internet.

I love the internet...but I certainly don't think of it as a gift. I think it's actually been very detrimental to society as a whole.
