Patents Qualcomm quietly filed back in March for a “User Interface Interaction for Transparent Head-Mounted Displays” became available late last month, indicating that the company was, and perhaps is, working on an interface for smart glasses.
According to documents, the patent was filed in Washington D.C. back in March but wasn’t available online until December 26th. Background information in the patent stated that “A see-through head-mounted display (HMD) can provide transparent display area within a user’s field of view in which a user can view both physical objects in the user’s surroundings and virtual objects on the display.” Which sounds like it couldn’t be anything but an interface for a Google Glass like device.
Qualcomm’s latest SoC for Windows laptops is now official, and it’s called the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 Compute Platform.
An unlikely competitor has entered the field.
Microsoft, Google, and Qualcomm are unpleased with Nvidia buying Arm. Qualcomm is the most resolute to see the acquisition blocked.
