AOL, which bought Winamp in 1999 for $80 million, has decided to shut down the popular media player service just five days before Christmas, officially ending a better than 15-year run as one of the most well regarded media players among power users.
The Winamp website got an overhaul earlier this week.

The once-popular Winamp media player is returning next year as an all-new mobile audio app where you can listen to your music, podcasts, and streaming services from one location. Winamp was a popular choice around the turn of the century before iTunes and streaming services changed music listening.
Winamp 5.8 is released ahead of schedule due to a leak that happened over the weekend i think.
