BGR - When Apple, announced the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s at an event last week, many in the media, consumers, and Wall Street analysts were crying that the cost of the 5c, unsubsidized at $549, is too expensive. As with all things Apple, the devil is in the details. Apple recently started a in-store trade-in program, allowing users to trade in their older iPhones.
When a couple of terrorists attacked and killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California in December last year, an iPhone 5c was recovered, and it’s been in the news almost as much as the terror attack itself. The phone was said to contain pertinent information that the FBI really wanted their mitts on, and the Washington Post today reports that it was able to, with the help of professional hackers using a security flaw in the iPhone that was previously unknown.
An iPhone 6c released in the first of half of next year would face fewer challenges than the ill-fated iPhone 5c and could even spur iPad sales.
Apple will discontinue the iPhone 5c next year, according to Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times. Production of the handset is said to be stopping in the middle of the year, as Apple suppliers Wistron and Foxconn will look to wind down production of the device. The news follows a report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier this week which noted that production of the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 4S would end later in 2015 after promotional plans.
Not sure why they even started the production. It was certainly not as cheap as people were expecting.
