Windows 8.1 update to be finalized in 'late August,' ready for PC makers

The Verge: After releasing a preview version of Windows 8.1 recently, Microsoft says it's ready to deliver a final version to PC makers in "late August." Speaking at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) on Monday, Windows CFO Tami Reller revealed Microsoft will be finalizing Windows 8.1 in August, simply noting that it will be made available to PC makers (OEMs). Reller didn't reveal when end users will be able to install the 8.1 update, but machines running on the software are expected to be made available in time for the holidays.
