How do people still text while driving, it's so ridiculous I just can never understand it... What could you possibly be texting that's so important..???

Seriously when did common sense become so hard to use....

(People tell me all the time, yeah I really need to stop texting while I'm driving, I look at them like you gotta be kidding me.. Really, and your an adult.. Wow, that's scary... )

I tell them all the same thing, if your that addicted to your phone do this, put the phone in the truck, every time you get ready to go somewhere.. Why? Because that way you are not tempted to grab it if it rings.. and if you get a text and it's killing you that much that you need to see what it says, you will have to pull over first. if it rings and you want to see who was calling you, you have to pull over first... You will be surprised how quickly you will say, "oh that text can wait till i get to where I'm going" (you will be cured in a week - guaranteed )

I turn my phone off the second I get in my car, whatever calls or text I get will be there when you turn the phone back on.. -even if you miss one or two guess what, nothing is that important, that you would be getting it in a text message.

In the UK, it is illegal to use a phone holding it to your ear while you drive. Unfortunately the people most likely to use their phone or text are the ones with the least experience in driving and controlling a car- 17-24 year olds.

Generally when I have seen people driving and using their phone their driving is indeed awful.

Just the other day I saw a young woman on a phone leave a junction and drive very fast right behind me, and sit on my bumper yapping away phone to ear trying to shove me down the road as I did 29mph in a 30mph zone.

If I had braked even slightly more than normal before she even knew what happened she would have crashed into me, she must have been a car length behind at most. She would be sat in my boot before her foot even touched the brake pedal.

I tapped the brake pedal and flickered my brake lights on at which point she quickly backed off LOL

i know this might sound insensitive, but honestly, people who text and drive should be dead because of stupidity. they not only putting themselves in danger but other non-texting road users. they are a bunch of selfish motherf*ckers.

i been driving for over 10 years now and its not a matter of "i cant multitask". when driving there is a lot to keep you busy. from checking mirrors to the gauges to everything thats happening around you. you don't look at these things once every half hour. put simply there is no time to text when driving. and if it really is that important, stop on the side of the road as soon as you can for 5 mins, do your texting and carry on. there is no logical explanation why one needs to text and drive.

Lol I agree-these scumbags put everyone else in danger-I would shoot them if I could to be honest

thing is if you have a even semi modern phone most of them can actually 'text for you' via voice controls, so you could have it set todo that if you HAD to tell someone something but having a conversation is stupid because then you've got to read replies etc- just pull over... its really not that hard...

Having read the article all I can say is wow...he had his head down when driving... wtf?

This x100. I recently lost a friend to a person who was texting while driving, so I have no sympathy for the morons who think it's ok to do. No text is so important that you have to risk your life (and other peoples' lives) replying to it while driving. It takes a few seconds to pull over to respond to it...or even just wait till you've reached your destination.

Is there ever visual proof these drivers actually were texting while driving? I could see a person at a stop light, pick up the phone and start typing. When the light changes during a mid text they put the phone down and start to drive again.

Then an accident occurs. Police and medical people find the phone and notice a mid text. Then we make the claim the person crashed due to texting.

You can make the claim, no texting period. I see this though to be the same as playing with the radio. I get to a stop light. I fidget with the radio station buttons.

I refuse to use my phone while in the car. The no texting while driving thing is just a cover for me actually just hating people.

I am all for safe driving, but did you know the leading cause of accidents is distractions, being tired at a number 1 spot. Yet we don't crucify people who drive tired. We don't take the keys away to a tired person, but why? The difference of people killing others cause they were tired is significant.
Talking to a passenger would be a close second, including kids. And people here say you want to kill people for texting?? Do you want to kill people for driving tired, or yelling or beating their kid while driving? Or talking to their friend or wife too??
