ZDNet: The chief developer of the popular alternative Android firmware CyanogenMod thought that requiring devices to report unique smartphone and tablet data would be an unqualified blessing. They reckoned without their users.
A few days ago news breakout that Cyanogen Inc. is suspending all of its services by the end of this year.Everybody was waiting for the community’s word on this matter, and they have spoken. CyanogenMod community launches Lineage OS, A new open source program that will carry forward the work of Cyanogen Inc.
It is official Cyanogen Inc. is shutting down all the Cyanogen services. However, the source code will remain available for anyone who is willing to build the Mod personally.
The CyanogenMod Team continues to expand its list of officially-supported devices, and now the LG section of said list is longer by four entries.
wtf!!
i use cyanogenmod on my HTC Desire Z. best rom out there.
anyways here they are telling you exactly what info they requesting from you and as you can see, its not anything other apps aren't taking without your knowledge and people are having a fit. REALLY?!!
would you rather they kept it quiet and took it anyways. coz they sure as hell could have went that route like other app developers.
and if you think they going to secretly take more info than they saying they are, they actually release all their source code as well so other developers and go and have a look at it. see if they can find hidden agendas.
and i can understand where they coming from. if only 7 people use CM on a specific device, and 1000 people on another, surely they can stop development on the one and add the added time and resources for the other one. rather give 1000 people a better product than 1007 people something that could have been better.
