HotHardware: TiVo on Monday announced the availability of a new companion device that allows TiVo users to access apps and extend the viewing of live TV, recorded and streaming content, and even on-demand programming to rooms throughout the home without having to invest in an additional DVR. It's called TiVo Mini, and it's a $99 box that works with existing 4-tuner TiVo DVRs.
DVR maker TiVo today officially confirmed the launch of its new DVR, the TiVo BOLT VOX, and its smaller counterpart, the TiVo Mini Vox, following yesterday’s leak. As had been reported, the biggest change is that these are the first TiVo DVRs to include a voice remote control, which allows users to search across live TV, DVR, video-on-demand and online streaming services just by speaking.
And a smart, new Prediction engine solves that nagging "what to watch" problem.
Huff Post Tech: It’s been a great run. I remember the very first moment I had in my hand the peanut-shaped controller that ran my TiVo DVR. It was magical. After a lifetime of TV programming me, setting my schedule, forcing me to make time to watch my favorite shows when they were broadcast, TiVo set me free. I was in control, I watched what I wanted when I wanted it. Oh yeah, and I skipped the commercials. I guess I knew I should watch them - but back then I was paying for cable and skipping interruption advertising seemed flat-out fair.
