The Earth is at a ‘Tipping Point’, says scientists

What's Hawt: A group of scientists from around the world is warning that population growth, widespread destruction of natural ecosystems, and climate change may be driving Earth toward an irreversible change in the biosphere, a planet-wide tipping point that would have destructive consequences absent adequate preparation and mitigation.

Oh we definitely need to get to work. The world might be able to recycle our mess but we are pushing its limits beyond a reasonable extent. If we continue like this, it might be a harsh place some 70 years from now.

deep_fried_bum_cake4334d ago (Edited 4334d ago )

I have a very much 'meh' attitude about all of this stuff. As you said, it could be a harsh place in 70 years but it's already gone too far. So even if there was a sudden huge green push it would just mean that it would be a harsh place in 90 years rather than 70.

Eventually a plague will strike, the population will half, and then the economy, the environment, and ecosystems will get a chance to bounce back.

It happened before and will happen again. It's an unpleasant thought, but I greatly believe it.

I just hope this time humanity can REALLY get their crap together. They need to realize how fragile the world is and how important their actions are. But then, like I said, this has happened before and THAT didn't exactly happen, did it?

Games4M - Rob4334d ago

When it happened before people where not as aware of the global situation, this should not be the case going forward.

dead_eye4333d ago

The people in charge would still be as selfish and stupid as they are now

Will it be a Zombie Plague?

Although I don't agree with how we are destroying the planet, I hate the way a lot of people seperate us from nature and place the blame ourselves. We are in fact a part of nature, and as we should let nature take its course it means we are merely destined to die out just like any other species. It would be nice if we cared more but its our nature to be destructive unfortunately. It so happens that our nature is pushing us towards our demise. Oh well, we are in general a horrible species anyway so bring it on and let the next dominant species take our place. Time goes on.

NCAzrael4333d ago

That has to be the worst outlook on a situation ever. What you're pretty much saying is "Meh, I don't want to change my lifestyle, and I don't really care about anything, so who cares if the world goes to shit?" If there ever was a reason for our species to die out, it's attitudes like this.

sjaakiejj4334d ago

Biggest problem here is that these are long-term consequences that need political support to be avoided. But politicians only think in short-term.

SnakeCQC4334d ago

most politicians are bought out by the earths biggest enemies the oil conglomerates

gintoki7774334d ago

The problem is people are too lazy to care. Change won't happen. When some form of possible change appears people play it down as a crazy idea or the whole "O we are all gonna die anyway it is too late" attitude. You want change do something. Humans will not change until the Earth is seconds from blowing up.

thebudgetgamer4334d ago

The Earth will never "blow up" its been through way more than we could ever do to it.
Now us driving ourselves to extinction is a very good posibility.

Lucretia4334d ago

earth blow up? Naaaaah, unless we smashed into another planet.

Earth by ridden of all life forms, Yep. anyone remember Mars?

beautiful blue and green planet much like ours till its field got knocked out.

if we keep making our ozone hole bigger then we may not be able to hold off a strong solar flar or magnetic burst. and all thanks to humans needing to drive to mcdonalds

Tony-Red-Grave4334d ago

IIRC mars had a weak magnetic field, i can't remember exactly what it was called since the program was in spanish, and it couldn't withstand the punishment for a long time. It took awhile but after the field was stripped away the water couldn't be sustained anymore..... now here is where my memory ends....

Anywho what i was getting at is the problem with earth is not the field getting destroyed from the inside but rather when the poles will invert. If you haven't read up on this when the poles invert the earth shut it's defenses down for some time and we'll be screwed.

zeddy4333d ago (Edited 4333d ago )

i think the last time when humans almost went extinct was when the lake toba supervolcano erupted 70k odd years ago. i think were about due another soon since they are supposed to happen once every 10,000 years.

Bathyj4334d ago

Dont worry about the Earth, it will recover fine once all the humans are gone.
