Microsoft has launched the most complete preview yet of its forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.
The company said that tens of thousands of improvements have been made to what it calls the most important redesign of its interface since Windows 95.
Rory Cellan-Jones installed it on a Samsung tablet, to get a sense of how the system functions on a touchscreen platform.
The cloud storage platform will drop support for older versions of Windows in early 2022.
Microsoft responded with Windows 8 and its Surface RT tablet.
In the earliest days of the Surface, it was hard to shake the notion that the line was something of a reference design for Windows 8.
