OMG! Now from when "likes" is such a big deal.

This is more about business accounts, correct me if I'm wrong. In order to give the illusion of popularity they 'buy' their likes and the result is millions of fake likes.

Glad I avoided that mess. No constant notifications on my phone, no siree!

SilentNegotiator3483d ago

...except you'd only be getting them if you hired someone to give you fake likes -_-

Do people really need such ridiculous validation in their lives from something so meaningless?

Speed-Racer3483d ago

The problem really is about Facebook pages and those who buy fake likes to inflate their numbers. The more likes you have, the higher chance of someone liking your page. But of course it doesn't help in terms of interactions and also spills over to those who are genuinely trying to purchase real likes.

Fake likes usually come from fake profiles

MRHARDON3483d ago

From people who have a fake persona.

Although Fake Likes are a bain, the way they are going about dealing with it by clamping down on companies and businesses that gain Likes through promotions, competitions and clever marketing is only going to alienate their core customer base that helped make Facebook what it is today.

Facebook may seem popular but underneath that cosmetic look it is a timebomb waiting to explode and die like Myspace did. And it is all down to them trying to be too clever and take away too much control from the very people that joined and made Facebook what it is today, and it isn't what people want!

I agree. As someone who owns a gaming website with legitimate "Likes", I can see why businesses do this.

For one, Facebook has made it so that you have to purchase Facebook Ads just to get "Likes" on your Fan Page.

On top of that, the people who "Liked" your Fan Page and want updates don't get them because greedy Facebook put out an algorithm that limits the amount of people who see your post updates.

So now you're forced to "Boost" (pay more money) your posts just to get the people who already opted in to see your updates to notice it!

For example. My Fan Page has over 3,300 followers. I put up a post this morning. It's reached 8 people so far!

It's no wonder Fan Pages have resorted to underhanded tactics just to get more "Reaches".
