Wikimedia Won't Take Down This Photo Because A Monkey Owns The Copyright

Time and time again, British nature photographer David Slater has asked the editors of Wikipedia to stop using his photos without permission. Unfortunately for Slater, at least in the eyes of the Wikimedia Foundation, they're not quite his photos-because the monkey pressed the shutter.

Well technically nobody owns the copyright unless it was applied for. Copyrights/trademarks, etc, do not just happen automatically. You have to apply for it and be approved. The monkey could however claim prior use if Slater did file for a copyright, which would then void the copyright.

Wikimedia Sues NSA Over Its Mass Surveillance Program

This is big news. Wikimedia Foundation, the organization behind Wikipedia, has announced that it is suing the NSA (with help from the ACLU) over its mass surveillance program. While the full lawsuit hasn't yet been posted, the lawsuit targets the "upstream" collection under Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act.
