OkCupid wants users to boycott Firefox over Mozilla CEO’s gay rights stance

Vyralize: We really wish we could tell you this was an April Fools’ joke, but the folks at OkCupid have taken a serious stance against Mozilla’s recently appointed CEO, Brendan Eich.

The end of the article shows the real issue with the gay community:

"Do you think OkCupid was right to take a stance against homophobia by encouraging users to switch browsers"

So if I interpret this correctly, just because the CEO supported prop 8, that makes him a homophobe. Which means that if you do not agree with homosexuality, you are now marked as a homophobe.

Does anybody else recognize the dangerous path that this is taking? People comes in all shapes, sizes, religions, politics and opinions, so why do we all have to believe homosexuality is good?

Basically they are telling people that we all need to accept their ways, but they don't have to accept anybody else's. And if we don't accept their ways, then they go in full attack mode calling us homophobes, tarnish our reputations, and doing everything they can to hurt those who disagree with their ways.

Reminds me of what is written about the end times and the mark of the beast. You can only get the mark if you denounce your Christian beliefs, otherwise... well, you're going to have a real bad time.

JDcg3670d ago (Edited 3670d ago )

@ITPython

Ok...huh

You are something else. Did you honestly just write a whole thing on how the gays impose their beliefs and tarnish anyone who does not agree with them. Then turn around and impose your religious beliefs. Unreal. HAHA! (not based not any scientific fact whatsoever) You are doing exactly what you claim they are doing! but your way is correct, right?

Why do you have to believe homosexuality is bad? Because god said so? But wait...man wrote the bible, albeit through the words of god. But wait...isn't the story of Adam and Eve about how ultimately man cannot be trusted? Eve ate the forbidden apple. And...man technically wrote the bible. Sooooo I'm confused. I have to trust gods word but not the man who wrote it. interesting. (insert convenient opposing argument because almost everything in the bible is a contradiction)

I believe that the original bible was through gods words, I'm a religious man. But you are telling me that through out the entire span the bible has been around that not one person, not ONE slimy person changed the words of bible to suit his or her own needs. Cuz that is unheard of in history, am I right?

You have no valid justification to not agree with homosexuality, and neither does the CEO. Ultimately you don't like it. I don't like you but you are entitled to say what you want. That's your freedom. But don't you dare try to restrict other peoples freedoms because you don't like it. Stop being close minded.

Thank you.

abzdine3670d ago

i completely agree, and that's why i'm gonna start using Firefox from now.
I will let people guess why...

mezati993671d ago

f***ing idiots..what is wrong with this world ?!

JDcg3670d ago

I don't know, what's wrong with being upset that a close minded individual is the head of a powerful company? Whats wrong with a site who disagrees with his beliefs to voice their opinions in an appropriate way? A site that gets a good amount of it business from its gay clients. Why is it ok that the CEO is allowed to outwardly oppose gay marriage, and you see it as his right protest what he wants, but the OKcupied can't? Prop 8 is just a protest.

To answer your question, whats wrong with this world is that we have a problem with homosexuality. When we know as much about how it occurs as we do about how we are even here. But because more people are straight and refuse to actually sit down and logically think about whether or not some homosexuals actually have a choice in their sexual identity, they think it is ok just to oppose it and say our country was founded with the intentions of marriage being between a man and a woman. "Cuz Jesus said so."

My real question is, Why the f*ck, do you actually care?

Dasteru3671d ago

Boycott a product simply for not liking the opinion of the companies CEO? That makes sense how? I'll continue using the product that performs the best for me, i really couldn't give 2 $#!ts about the social views of the companies CEO.

iamnsuperman3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

Well okcupid is a dating site and mozilla's "opinions" doesn't exactly promote equality (especially in the relationship department).

Why would they support him and the company he runs? It's like if you found out the head of Apple is donating money to an organisation that is actively trying to ban blacks from marrying.

gano3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

sorry your wrong.
Please dont compare a race to gender.
That is offensive.
And to put proper perspective, bill gates father help give
kids in africa dieases and people support m$ still.

awiseman3671d ago

Nice try with that last part. Marked as offensive.

iamnsuperman3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

@gano

Why not compare race and gender. To homosexuals the idea about being gay isn't seen as a choice but who they are (something you can't nor would they want change)

The response from both of you shows ignorance. When it comes to race it's a big no no but sexual orientation is okay to discriminate. What gives us or anyone the right to say homersexuals can't get married. I support what okcupid is doing. It make sense (since they are a dating website) and the CEO's views are outdated and an idea the doesn't promote equality.

gano3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

Easy iamsuperman.
YOU DONT CHOOSE NATIONALITY.
An interacial child didn't choose to be born interacial.
But you CHOOSE who your friends with, hang out with,
what u drink, smoke, wear, kiss, and lay with.

Don't gays pick (choose) the person they find attractive?
More or less if thats your thing so be it.
But to knock a mans business because of your sexual deviance, sounds childish.

isn't SEX between two consenting adults?
If yes, then is that ok if those adults are doing it in public
in front of your child?
As oppose to in privacy like normal adults.

Once again, your Choice, businness, and preference.
But if i no one asked, what idiot tells their businness to who
they sleep with. Don't you sound like a hoe when u brag about
who you then slept with. Even chicks diss men on that.
This shyt is basic life mannerism.

Be repectful. Isn't that the beauty of america.

@tabsf
WTH are you talking bout. This isn't rome or greece.
and since you brought them up you know zeus the greek god
was gay.
Dogs hump anything, are you saying men aren't smart or civilized enough to calm a SEXUAL urge?
So rape victims are wrong? The only backward thinkers are those
who think race and gender the same thing?

Any race can be on a bus going to florida, but how the hell
you know what their sexual intrest are unless you askin people
businness you shouldn't be askin.

evil_element3671d ago

Unfortunately there's some things we can and cannot change in life.

Is there a difference between being black, white, olive or gay or lesbian?

No. Same as skin pigment, you can not change who you are from within. There nothing to take away or add, you cannot be manipulated or corrected. Your body, mind and perceptions are set from the day you were born.

If you think homosexuality is a choice?

Kiss another man or woman and whats you gut instinct. Its not so easy, because its not in your nature to be like that.

Is this been blown out of proportion?

No. Why? Because its difficult enough for people to recognise you as being human let alone have people lead companies which stand for equality.

SilentNegotiator3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

@iamnsuperman

I just have to play Devil's Advocate - oops, sorry, "homophobe's advocate" - for one second. Being born a race is 100% inarguably not a conscious choice. Sexuality (itself, while maybe not arousal) is based on conscious actions. Some people don't believe or don't want to believe that their genes define their personality so much that it decides their sexual preference.

Furthermore, the same genes don't always result in the same type of people; not everyone with the so called "gay gene" is gay and not everyone lacking it is straight. Studies show that only about 40% of men with the "gay gene" are gay ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/... ). And here's the real kicker - this phenomenon doesn't even seem to be present in women, yet there's both straight and gay women in the world.

Again, I'm just playing advocate. I don't really care if people choose/are born to be gay or straight, but if we're being fair, placing all of the cause of homosexuality on a gene with only about a 40% likelihood, and only in men, isn't accurate. The gay community just needs to come out and say "we've chosen to act on our desires and it doesn't affect you"

Dee_913671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

oh dear god.I knew it would only be a moment before someone tried to compare blacks to gays.
If only you knew how offensive that is.

It all boils down to his religious beliefs. It had nothing to do with him believing sexuality is a choice. But I am assuming you don't follow an religion so anything regarding that aspect would probably be stupid to you.The irony with that is.You don't accept his beliefs, he don't support their lifestyles.Yet he's a bigot to you..

With that said. I am not going to boycott a company, because of their beliefs.

@iamnsuperman:

Firefox doesn't cost money though, it is not like you are financially supporting a company by downloading a freeware program. Why would someone potentially limit themselfs to an inferior product, simply because they disagree with the social views of the companies CEO? Maybe it is just me, but that seems illogical.

awiseman3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

Dont care. I will continue to use Firefox.

gano3671d ago

Thats fine.
Don't know what was said offnsive but whatever floats your boat.
Mozilla user still too.

SilentNegotiator3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

I'm switching to "internet exploder"

Unless he's pushing for Firefox to have a lock-out mechanism for homosexuals, what does it matter? He isn't trying to discriminate on who uses the browser, how they use it, or what content they view. His views on gay marriage clearly aren't affecting the browser's policies.

This is modern Mccarthyism, plain and simple; they disagree with someone and they're trying to get him fired for it.

awiseman3671d ago

You will find especially here in the US this gay rights movement has been hijacked by a socialist party that is now using it as a weapon to attack political dissidents.

Something like this except far more overblown happened back in 2012 with Chick Fil a simply because the CEO said he supported traditional marriage. A massive manufactured controversy ensued that included inappropriate protesting, boycott attempts, harassment of employees, vandalism and even some surprisingly ridiculous statements from top left wing politicians demanding "evil" Chick Fil a stay out of their state(s).

TABSF3671d ago

People can't choice:

Were they're born
What racial heritage that they will become
If they are going to be born male or female
If they will have blonde or black hair

So what makes people think they'd choice their sexuality

Like all listed, science shows that people are born the way they're, bigots and backward idiots only think differently.
Hell back in Greek and Roman times Bisexuality and Homosexuality was accepted, what went wrong?

I'm a Firefox user and I am disappointed to hear this, I would suspect that the board will remove him to save face. Mozilla is a very forward and progressive company that wouldn't want to offend any of its users.

Equality to for all!

FlameBaitGod3671d ago

Dude its been found that in MANY cases people's past strongly influence their choice. From continually bad break ups, to jerks, to childhood problems and ect influence if the person becomes homosexual.

3671d ago
evil_element3671d ago

Thats on par with you grow into being black or turn genders during life on the stupidity meter. There isn't anything in your life which makes someone homosexual. Thats just wrong.

@FlameBaitGod - Sounds to me by your username your someone who hides behind religion/crowd casting stones at others who you believe are different to you because your a shallow person.

Stringerbell3671d ago

@FlameBait, when did you choose to be straight?

FlameBaitGod3671d ago (Edited 3671d ago )

All of you can educate your self a lil bit maybe

http://www.education.com/re...

http://www.kon.org/urc/v5/m...

http://www.equalityhumanrig...

Maybe do some research before talking out of the butt plz ? You can google more if you want. Maybe you guys can do your own studies and disprove these and all other findings.

As for you evil_element, i don't need to insult anyone cus I'm not insecure :'(

JDcg3670d ago

@FlameBaitGod So wait...

because there are "MANY" cases that say people are influenced at an early age, that speaks for all cases? Don't think so. I take it you don't have gay friends?

You can't learn everything from a google search. You also cannot make a claim as you do without first maybe getting some personal testimonies. Even through all the articles you posted, none definitely assure that homosexuality is brought on by influence in environment.

Why is it hard to believe people are born gay? Why do you like who like? Have you thought about it? Really why? If a gay guy tells me that they have always been attracted to the same sex and they don't know why they just are, then who am I or you to say he is lying. Then I have that same gay guy tell me he wishes he wasn't because he is afraid of what people will say, and all he wants is to be attracted to women because it would be easier. This does not sound like someone who has made a choice. This sounds like someone who had the same amount of power over whether they were a girl or a boy, or black or white.

So why do people constantly feel they can make the claims they do when they have no proof NONE what so ever to say that the gay guy I mentioned is lying.

So "Dude"...maybe not every single person is the same. we are all different and just because some people have changed their orientation due to "bad break ups" DOES NOT speak for everyone. Stop being close minded.

Thank you.

FlameBaitGod3670d ago (Edited 3670d ago )

"You can't learn everything from a google search. You also cannot make a claim as you do without first maybe getting some personal testimonies. Even through all the articles you posted, none definitely assure that homosexuality is brought on by influence in environment."

Thx for letting me know you didn't read any of the links. Which are studies conducted by prestigious universities and others who took years to develop and claim what I said before. I love ignorance and not being able to comprehend even the simplest sentences.

"So "Dude"...maybe not every single person is the same. we are all different and just because some people have changed their orientation due to "bad break ups" DOES NOT speak for everyone. Stop being close minded."

If you cant even ---> READ FACTS <--- (making it so that your the one whose close minded) and don't even notice when I type the word *MANY* in the sentence and not *ALL*, you should go back to school a learn Simple, Compound, Complex and Compound-Complex Sentences and try READING again.
