Woz says he's still a laptop guy, despite Tim Cook's comments

Technically Incorrect: Not going along with Tim Cook's feeling that PCs are dead, the Apple co-founder says it's laptops for him and he's not in love with the Apple Watch.

The future is hybrid systems that give the flexibility of a tablet but the productivity of a laptop, very very few people will buy an iPad Pro to replace their laptop but more people will gravitate towards systems like the Surface Pro 4 which is what I'm considering for my next tablet. I wanted the iPad Pro to give a fuller Mac OS experience to replace my iPad 3rd Gen but its just a jumbo iPad.

The lack of innovation with this new iPad is disappointing enough but the pricing will drive people towards a more complete experience. The base model iPad Pro with just a meagre 32GB of storage will set you back £679 where as the base model Surface Pro 4 is £749 which includes the stylus so its cheaper if you factor in the cost of the Apple Pencil which costs an additional £79 for a like-for-like experience and the Surface Pro 4 has expandable storage on top of the base models 128GB.

It gets worse though, nobody buying an iPad Pro for any kind of productivity will buy a 32GB iPad Pro, I'm running out of memory on my 64GB model and its just really a browsing tool with my iTunes media on it. The next size up jumps to 128GB which will set you back £799 for which you could buy a Core i5 powered Surface Pro with 128GB and expandable storage AND including the Stylus but the Surface Pro 4 model that really interests me, the one that a lot of sites seem to recommend is only £200 more with 256GB memory when you factor in the cost of the Apple Pencil. There is no incentive there to buy a much less capable device when the Surface Pro 4 can function as a laptop or tablet as you need it.

Just 12 hours of battery life for the pencil between charges and what looks to be the worst charging method possible, its just asking for that connector to snap off. I hope someone out there makes a small cable to go from male to female lightning connector because that thing is just an accident waiting to happen. Compare that to what Microsoft are claiming is an 'all year' battery.

If Windows 8/8.1 was still on the scene I don't think I'd be quite so enthusiastic about the Surface Pro 4 but I'm really liking Windows 10 on my desktop and laptop, its proving to be good OS and its worked out very well for the XBOX One too. Yes it has less app's on the store but you can use full blown applications on the Surface Pro 4, full Adobe Photoshop rather than the cut down tablet versions etc. I thought my next tablet would be an iPad again but Apple really seem to have lost their way in recent years.

800 dollars can get me a laptop that supports my drawing tablet, has in-depth photo and video editing, processors to handle all that without a problem, and is more reliable with better batter power and support.

Or I can get an iPad that does "most" of that, and what it does do isnt nearly at the same level of depth.

Tim Cook is a moron. That's all anyone needs to know about him.

I can't get to the story but it sounds like Apple is doing it right... Take note Microsoft and Google.
