This article is better understood as 'food for thought' rather than an in-depth researched article. I agree with sjaajeff,
This is 100% pure unresearched opinion. Seriously, almost every accident with these vehicals, was OTHER drivers either side swiping the car, or rear ending it. What did you think, the car was going to jump in the air out of the way lol. And a computer will always react faster than a VERY flawed human, with there very flawed judgement. 99% of all traffic fatalities was caused by human error. Take the humans outa the equation, and the fatality numbers will drop by 95% or more.
There will have to be strict guidlines on upkeeping sensors, and replacing certain tech every few years to ensure safety stays over the years of these vehicals, but you can count on the fact that they will drive better than you or I. they wont text and drive, drink and drive, eat and drive, sight see and drive, goof around and drive, argue and drive, or the many other reasons people crash and kill others.
