Getting the Most Out of Amazon FireTV

Syko|3607d ago |Blog Post|0|

As a TV lover I constantly consume all the latest and greatest shows, but as a Cord-cutter for well over a year now finding access to all the shows you want to watch can be hard. Good thing for you I have done all the leg work to solve the dependency on overpriced cable to watch the few channels you actually want to watch.

While I took the route of building a $1500 Gaming/HTPC, the best part is this can now be done with a simple $99 box that Amazon has released to the masses.

Oh Did I mention we are giving away 3 FireTV's this month?

First off let's look at the Specs on the Amazon FireTV: Screen resolution(1080p)(720p) Storage (8GB) RAM (2GB) CPU (Qualcomm Quad Core Krait 300, up to 1.7 GHz) GPU (Qualcomm Adreno 320, 400 MHz) Networking: WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) Networking: Ethernet (10/100 Base-T) Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.0) Device OS (Amazon FireOS; Based on Android 4.2) And if you are thinking, well that looks great but I don't have a Prime account so it isn't worth $100 to me...This is where you are sadly missing the bigger picture of the Android based operating system.

Enter XBMC, The Free shining beacon of hope in the war against Cable/Sat TV slavery. XBMC is a free and open source media player that puts a brilliant front end on your media files. As an open source program it also has access to user developed "Add-Ons". It is through these add-ons that we will make this program the crown jewel of our FireTV setup.

Enter iStream. The do it all streaming add-on for XBMC. This little program is a combination and streamlined version of the best XBMC has to offer. With this program you will be able to stream 1000's of shows and movies with nearly all the latest releases in HD. All with a sleek, professional looking interface including descriptions, images and fanart for shows and movies.

This setup in addition to a Prime account and even Netflix can give you access to everything you want to watch without exception. If any of this has peaked your interest then leave a comment on this blog and stay tuned for Part two where I get into the details and step by step of sideloading XBMC onto the FireTV and also the step by step on how to setup iStream within XBMC once it is loaded. After that, all you need to do is sit back and enjoy limitless entertainment from your little magic $100 box....Oh did I mention we are giving away 3 FireTV's this month?
