Everyone can approve/report stories. Let's do it!

Just another friendly reminder to ALL contributors out there. Remember that being a contributor allows you the power of approving or reporting stories (managing). I've gotten a number of PMs asking me why I don't approve stories on a frequent basis. The reason for this is that this (like all other NewsBoiler sites) is a user-driven community.

All posts are up for review by all contributors, not just me. I just step in to expedite the process should there be a back up of posts (which is too often). It's actually not my responsibility to approve posts as soon as they are reviewed.

If every contributor who submitted posts here reviewed 2-3 other posts on a daily basis or every 2 days, things would work out much better for all of us. There won't be a backlog and good posts will quickly be filtered out from bad ones.

If you're not a frequent submitter, aim to review as many posts as you can after contributing your story. Look out for posts that may be wrong sources, have bad grammar/spelling mistakes, or aren't correctly formatted on our end.

If you are regular to the site, maybe focus on reviewing a smaller number of posts per day if you find the task tiresome.

Don't worry. I am gonna take care of all. Has been a busy month this.

Lol..salute to the one who disagrees with this comment. But Whats there to disagree with this?

proudly_X3585d ago

Already doing that.. and I am glad you making a post for this.. It's not enough to submit, but also to manage.. Remember when I spent more time on N4G.. The pending section is always busy.. but we can make it happen here.. xD

TechImperia3585d ago

Sure I will be doing this, has been busy lately

Thanks for this post racer :) Even lots of my post suffering from this approval syndrome

Coolhand0073584d ago

I agree more needs to be approved, but people should actually read what they are clicking "approve" on. Big problem with that, very evident on a few recent pieces and one of them is on the front page right now.

ZoyosJD3583d ago

This seems to be an issue of multiple accounts. I have only submitted one piece here (one straight from Berkeley at that), which was approved only in part thanks to some bloke who was begging to have his crap articles submitted. I'm pretty sure Speed-Racer (Racer-X?) took care of him, but it kinda a show of the decrepit state of the site.

Speed-Racer3583d ago

Yep, formerly Racer-X. What you're saying is right. The biggest problem right now is a very archaic moderation system (requiring approvals for stories to be pushed to the front). Most of the approvals only come about by friends of site owners or even site owners making multiple accounts. Poor quality articles have also been a huge problem because of the influx of contributors from countries like India, Pakistan, etc, where their first language isn't English. Of course the killer is the sourcing rule. I think a lot of smaller, decent English based blogs have left TechSpy because of that. I guess all blogs have to start somewhere even if it means basing their stories on other posts, right?

TechSpy unfortunately doesn't have a huge user base like N4G, so convincing people to actually post here has always been a challenge with these major stumbling blocks.

Thankfully all these problems will be alleviated later this year. I know I said in the past that the new site should have been live by now, but delays and delays have set back the timeline.

Devil-X3582d ago

@Speed-Racer Though, I agree that filtering out poor quality articles is a huge problem but you should refrain from defaming one country as not all people of a country are same, I am from India also and though our first language isn't English, some people here can speak and write English very fluently and can articulate each word with great precision. "Writing" is a skill, NOT some "patent" own by one or two countries so I think anyone from any country with the right talent and right skill should be able to deliver a fine article written in English.

Speed-Racer3582d ago

@Devil - The thing is, I'm not assuming. I can see where every user is posting from, and sadly what I mentioned earlier is the case. I'm not blanketing those two countries, but it just happens to be where at least 90% of troubled articles pop out from.
