I have to admit, this is a day one purchase for me, I’m excited. But 100% honesty... it does look like a very fancy version of Spider-Man 2 on ps2 (or ps1, can’t remember) in that the swinging around looks almost identical, albeit in a larger more attractive version of Manhattan. The fighting has had the obligatory post Arkham-verse update and looks suitably modern, and there looks to be more filling this world than the ones all those years ago.

But it still does look very much like a very shiny version of what has come before. Being another Spider-Man game, I suppose that might be hard to shake.

Again, It’s still a day 1 purchase for me (I did really enjoy me some ps2 Spider-Man 2 though).

It isn't going to feel tired or overdone to me - the last Spiderman game I played was on Gameboy!

I'm excited cuz the game looks awesome. I love Batman Arkham games, Sleeping Dogs, and several of the Spider-Mans I've played. They're great. And this looks to be the best one so far.

You could already tell from the gameplay shown long before E3 that it was gonna be similar to previous games, just newer. Not sure what you expected.

Ok? I am not looking for Insomniac's Spider-man to redefine superhero games and open worlds. If the game follows previous conventions established by stellar superhero games like Batman.....I am cool with that. Most open worlds, including Witcher 3 and GTA, have repetition. Why is this now a problem? Just make a damn good Spider-man game and I'm happy.

But this guy casts a wide net with saying this game feels like "every superhero game before it". What? Not every prior superhero game feels the same.....not even close. So basically he is putting Batman Arkham City and Spider-man 3 on equal ground? Don't make me laugh. Makes for a good headline, I guess, but really doesn't make a lick of sense.

And then there is his opening paragraph where he basically insults anyone who is excited for this game. His opinion is obviously more important than ours because he puts himself on a pedestal and shakes his head at we, the ignorant masses. He is an asshat for that alone.

Bottom line is he really doesn't get why folks are excited for a Spider-man. The fact is more times than not, prior Spider-man games have underwhelmed. It has been, by far, the most abused franchise in gaming at the hands of Activision and the fact that a competent developer has taken over the reigns....yeah, that is exciting. This guy can't and won't get that.

Spiderman PS4 comparison to Batman games are inevitable, its most certainly not a bad thing but it's quite unlike insomniac to be so uncreative. The fight sections are a blatant copy of Batman's combat and they even got the enemies with shield and shock batons.Even the stealth sections are like the batman games.

Spiderman is all about speed but he moves too quick and as the player I want to feel like Spiderman not how the enemy see him. When Spiderman feels an enemy attack, his spider sense should trigger a slow Mo for the actual player to react to it during gameplay.

I also love how the only "negative" spiderman preview (not entirely) is the one littered with xbox fanboys claiming this guy is right. I understand the "superhero fatigue" sentiment completely, that being said, Spiderman seems different. It seems like they're venturing off of the tried and true narrative path of superhero movies, and I commend them for that.

Plenty of decent spiderman games over the years including shattered dimensions but never got the buzz this game is receiving.. and we know the main reason is due to exclusivity

After playing basically every spiderman game I can assure you it doesn't fight like every other spiderman game. The way spiderman moves in combat is so fucking fluid and basically like spiderman should. And I don't think the people excited over this game are excited about drastic changes that have never been done before. They're excited about the fact that its going to be a good Spiderman game after way too long. Everyone talks about Spiderman 2 as the best iteration, and Insomniac is shooting to top it. Which I believe it will since that game heavily inspired it as a target to surpass.

As someone who does not enjoy super hero games, or any of the movies for that matter, I can understand why some people enjoy them. For the same reasons why I enjoy anime while other's do not. Different strokes for different folks.

With that said I have Zero interest in this game, but those that are will be getting a great game from what has been shown so far.

I get it, to have a successful piece nowadays it has to be controversial to get clicks. It's not just exclusive to gaming! I'm a fan of Sci-fi and Horror and hear the same like "there isn't any new horror movies being made" or everything's a remake!" Which couldn't be further from the truth.

Here we have a Spider-Man game, a game that is a PlayStation exclusive and is developed by Insomniac. Now sure there are people who may not be fans of Spider-Man, Insomniac or PlayStation but I'd wager there are more who are fans than not!

I've got a feeling if this was multi platform we wouldn't be having the conversation to begin with but here we are! As it is I couldn't be happier and with a studio like Insomniac at the helm and a company like Sony funding it's not hard to see why.

For me the excitement comes from Spider-Man being misused for years in terrible movie cash ins to just bad games and now we have a well rounded studio in charge. Marvel could've went anywhere but they chose Sony which I think speaks volumes!

It doesn't need to reinvent the wheel it just needs to be fun! He's gonna swing but I guarantee it'll be the best web slinging we've ever experienced! He's gonna have side quests and I'm sure they'll be fleshed out more than any Spidey game we've played and the world be be more detailed and populated than any Spidey game we've played and it'll look better than any Spidey game we've ever played! So don't be excited and don't play it because more than enough will to make it a tremendous success!

This is the thing about spiderman games.....it's all about how flashy you can traverse the environment, and how flashy you can beat up bad guys lol. It's all about the finesse. So as long as they can provide us with godlike movement options in the game, then all is well

Decent developer and Spiderman games can be a lot of fun if done right. Spiderman is a very popular IP. Just a shame would have loved to see it running on the X hardware, But im sure it will still be pretty on PS4 Pro.

Did this individual play the entire game? I'm for playing a game in its entirety before coming to a conclusion. For me, I think insomniac is the perfect fit for spiderman and I believe they will do spidey justice

It reminds me of when a new superhero film comes out that the critics rave about, eventually I'll watch it because despite being sick to death of the genre the hype wears me down and surprise surprise it's the same as all the others barring a couple of insignificant tweaks to the formula.

The goal of the game is to make you feel like a Spiderman if the Arkham system succeeds in creating that feeling then it's a major win.
