That fight really is a bit of a joke. It made me change the difficulty right away from balanced to challenge.. It took forever and the guy never even hit me. It was sadly boring. I didn't really think about how it fit with the other enemies but so far none of them are really hard. This is no Bloodborne that is for sure. Plus I had to laugh when the prompts come up on the screen telling you how to block something after you have already blocked it. I guess they catered to the casuals with the default settings.. But at least they do give you options to turn it off, if you look hard enough.

As a player that platinumed Bloodborne and that was a 10/10 for me, I most say this is a borderline 11/10 for me. I have gone throught the main story and is having a blast on the "cleaning-up" end-game. And I still miss ALOT of materials for my fist epic armor piece hehe. Just a little more... and a little more. Damn this game is addicting ;)

You prefer something that lacks imagination? Games like GoW, DMC, Bayonetta and such are dealing with very powerful beings. You have to set up with a big fight/set piece. It sets up the main character and what they are up against. Sounds like you lack imagination and understanding.

I think the game makes it perfectly clear during and after the fight as to why Kratos isn't running around in full on god mode all the time. His body simply can't take it any more. He's visibly drained and barely able to pick himself up after the fight. It's clear he simply can't do things at that level all the time any more or he'll kill himself. "The Stranger" even mentions it. Through sheer force of will (Kratos being Kratos) he makes it through, but BARELY. Healing himself after combat clearly take a toll on him too. He's just not the same Kratos as before, and I think that's the whole point of the game, unless I'm entirely missing the point, but I certainly think one of us is.

Pffft please,did you ever grow up playing the PS1? PS2..? ... PS3? Legendary. Just finished God of War, I seriously could care less for what people have to say about it critically, I haven't been this involved in a game since MGS4 or Resident Evil 4, it'll be remembered. Legendary.

I loved the first fight. I was amazed of how cool it was and for what I have in store...

I thought it was incredible and an absolutely stunning piece of action, drama and intrigue. It's exactly what you need in a game to up the ante and I was talking about that moment with all my friends (also playing through at the same time) for days, just stunning.

I do find it annoying that Kratos can punch apart boulders and swing full size trees but needs his kid and a chain to get up a 5 foot cliff face. Or Kratos’s climbing speed, all that strength yet he goes up at a snails pace. I love the game but Kratos ain’t got nothing on Aloy’s skills.

I like that the enemy patterns are somewhat creative you cant just dodge/hit bosses over and over. Also the stranger is more a cutscene then a boss fight its so early in the game too.

Ridiculous. No, you can't grab a log and swing it in-game because the complexity of developing a world where everything is grabbable/useable/destructible would be insane, and infeasible. They could put context-sensitive situations in the game where you can do that in a specific part of the game, and things like that do exist in the game. But the real crux here isn't why CAN'T you do that in-game, but rather, why do they do things in cutscene that you CAN'T do in-game? And the answer is SIMPLE: Because why not? If the cutscenes only consisted of action that you can perform in-game, why even have a cutscene? The cutscene is there to move things along story-wise and present things that can't happen in-game. What a silly article.

What ...? That fight was jawdroping! Amazing game! Most beautyful I've ever seen, without losing the fast, brutal and tense combat that makes GOW one of my favourite franchises of all time.

Hardcore clickbait, sorry they're GODS. Has this guy ever played a GOW game? They have always opened up with an insane boss battle, and this one is more tame than some of them. GOW3 has you thrown a few miles off the tip of a titans fist thrown hundreds of miles an hour and this is too crazy? You can punch in game sir, and do some crazy stuff but it is a set piece so yeah some of it is a bit crazier, but who cares? Oh Yeah, you do for views. It was a fantastic opening boss fight showing you how to fight while being epic. This guy probably loves a standard hand holding tutuorial. You know, I love this game and the series as a whole, and this one being one of, if not the best in the series. Only one I like as much as this is GOW3. Stop playing games with "action" as their genre if setpieces irritate you.

Also, the combat in the game is so incredibly basic. You literally dodge the same exact two attacks and repeat the process over and over and over until the fight is done.

As cool and fun as the combat is, it's also the very worst part of the game.

Waiting to hear this trash author talk about how lagging in online shooters and where you can recover from 6 gunshots by hiding for 3 seconds is the greatest thing he's ever experienced.

This would have made sense if it wasn't explained later. When you meet the woods witch, it is explained that you are hiding your "godhood" from the boy. So it makes sense that your regular moveset is subdued, and the stranger fight is over the top

I didn’t even view this as a boss fight. I saw it as SSM telling you that “ hey so. We changed the way combat is. You have a shield and an axe. You can punch, kick and different move sets and in short. This isn’t the God Of War you’re used to playing so let’s see what you got. “

The first boss fight was great but I can understand this point of view sometimes. For example, I was watching into the badlands yesterday and I thought to myself “this would be great even without all of the crouching tiger stuff.” I didn’t hate it, it was just unnecessary. But that’s post apocalyptic not mythological... Complaining about Gods fighting like Gods is dumb and the thought shouldn’t be entertained lol. Boohoo I guess? Don’t play action games.

Will lets back to GOW Kratos hided his son to unveil his true form and brutalty, and if the OP did even finished the game or invest well in the game he will notice that Kratos son had these wowed moments when Kratos pushes and picks really huge things and that imply that Kratos want to hide to "the reason". Furthermore, I advice the auothe if he want to figure out how overpowered characters looks like in video games, just look how ugly Superman games, how boring Prototype 2, and Saint Row 4 I mean they were good but not effective and memorable game.

What a lot of people dont get is that kratos isnt trying to do all those stuff in front of his kid. To his kid he is a human and you can tell he hides his powers from him from the dialogue they have when they exit the witches hideout.

The first boss fight was awesome, it set the mood and got you really interested.
