Bloodborne and HZD will make some badass figurines!

fenome2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

I was wondering when they were going to start doing this. I remember when they got that huge new headquarters in silicon valley and someone did a video interview with Jack Tretton and he mentioned them having a 3d printing setup where they could make their own toys.

I'm all over the Bloodborne hunter and Kratos!!

SuperSonic912280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

The Hunter oozes with extreme bad assery just by standing there.

Its about tike Sony leverage yhe power of their own characters.

RommyReigns2279d ago

*Pinky up* I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it, I definitely don't need it.......

I NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

.
*Off topic* - Hey Majin Vegeta, what did you think of the recent Vegeta transformation into an updated SSGSS (Blue) form? Some are calling the form 'Super Saiyan Ultra Blue' or 'Super Saiyan Royal Blue'. Also I heard that Vegeta might get another upgraded transformation in two weeks time (but take that info with a pinch of salt).

zivtheawesome2281d ago (Edited 2281d ago )

at least it's not a DLC paywall this time and just legit figures.
also bring me aloy sony!

IamTylerDurden12280d ago

Only $9.99 as well. Preorders are available through Gamestop atm and there IS a Kratos figure.

porkChop2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

If you're going to get the figures anyway, then how is it somehow worse for the figure to interact with your game? These figures are pretty sweet, but I just don't understand how more functionality for nearly the same price is a bad thing? Most Amiibos in Canada are only $12-$15, so they'd be cheaper than that in the US.

letsa_go2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

Because that "functionality" is really things that used to be included in the game for free, but are now blocked off by $12-15 DLC per character. Games like Skylanders and Lego Dimensions could cost upwards to $1000 to buy all that is needed to fully enjoy the game. Super Mario Odyssey has things you can only do when you use amiibos. Luckily there are apps now that you can use to spoof these rfid tags, but still it is a pain, especially for lego dimensions. Mix that in with these companies creating artificial scarcity for certain characters, then it costs you wayyyy more money to obtain them, plus the time and energy trying to track them down. It really is a shitty thing that isn't needed in the gaming industry.

porkChop2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

You're right. They mostly are things that used to be included for free. But most games don't offer those unlockable at all.

So I ask again: One game offers you no unlockables at all, with a figurine that does nothing. Another game also offers no unlockables, but has a figurine that *does* give you unlockables.

How is the first situation better than the second? How is it better to get less for your money? I just don't understand the thinking here. Either way those things probably aren't going to be included in the game anyway, they'd just be microtransactions.

Gameseeker_Frampt2280d ago

@ porkChop

"How is it better to get less for your money?" You answered your own question about amiibos. How is it better for people who buy Metroid:Samus Returns to get less for their money? How is it better for people who buy Twilight Princess HD to get less for their money? Splatoon? Every amiibo compatible game has content on the disc locked out for people who don't purchase amiibo. That isn't fair. You're looking at it as adding value to the amiibo when you should be looking at what it takes away from everyone that buys the game.

porkChop2280d ago

"you should be looking at what it takes away from everyone that buys the game."

Right. Except the vast majority of games these days don't feature these types of unlockable anymore. If Amiibos didn't exist, there's a very good chance that the accompanying content wouldn't either.

So nothing is being taken away, things are being added. Now I'll agree that the content shouldn't be on the disc or game card. But with NFC only holding keys or text, I don't know how else they'd handle it.

Neonridr2279d ago

that's crap.. Here's a figurine that is $10 to sit on your shelf. Or here is a figurine for $10 that unlocks new costumes or other things.

But somehow the useless figurine has more value? Man, I must be missing something here.

Mario Odyssey has nothing of true value with their amiibos, completely optional. Game is still completed without them.

yomfweeee2279d ago

That's a bunch of bull letsa_go. The base Skylander games and base Lego Dimension game is certainly a full fledged game without buying anything extra. Lego Dimensions base game has way more content than the regular Lego games they release. So, they aren't screwing you. The extra stuff, why shouldn't you pay for it.

IamTylerDurden12279d ago

I'd rather have just the figure for a few bucks less than the figure and some gimmicky dlc for more.

FallenAngel19842281d ago

I can’t believe the nameless Hunter of all people got in the first wave over more iconic PlayStation mascots or characters heavily associated with the brand

Goldby2280d ago

Blood borne is pretty iconic for PlayStation now.

DrumBeat2279d ago

He's honestly the only one I'd buy.

fenome2279d ago

I get what you're saying but you've gotta admit it looks badass, I'm definitely getting it.

Their newer giga cart tech should make for even bigger games coming to the platform. I'm hoping for a Resident Evil collection with the first 3 games.

With Larian Out Of The Picture, Will The Baldur's Gate IP Be In Safe Hands?

Huzaifah from eXputer: "With Larian Studios washing their hands of the IP, what is the ultimate fate of the legendary Baldur's Gate series?"

RaidenBlack20h ago

If anybody's gonna mention BioWare, then look at Archetype Entertainment, they're the new BioWare
or else
Obsidian is still a good choice but not independent anymore.

anast20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

No, WoTC is pivoting to mobile. They can use Larian's work to justify DnD Go and everyone will accept it.

RiseNShine20h ago

Short answer, nope. Long answer, f*ck nope.

robtion2h ago

Correct answer. Most people don't realise that the companies that are still making good games using common sense and a customer focus are generally not American. They are from Poland, Belgium, Japan, or other countries that have not yet become completely corrupted by 'extreme capitalism'.

Before you down vote me into oblivion I am not anti-american. I just don't like greed and corruption which unfortunately seems to correlate with power.

I would guess the next Baldurs gate will probably be filled with GaaS.

Christopher20h ago

Honestly, we're talking completely new engine and none of Larian's built-in stuff with regard to environments and the like that they had from their past divinity game. No one is going to have that just ready to go. So, they need to shop for a dev studio that has a past game that shows what they want.

Obsidian doesn't have that, maybe the closest being Dungeon Siege 3 or Pillars of Eternity, but those are very basic, not as open, very little environment related and altering capabilities. So, we're talking a step way back on what Larian delivered. Zero scene experience to line up with what was done in BG3. Okay conversation tree designs, but still needs more complexity.

inXile has Wasteland 3 as a base model engine, and I think that's better than Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian. But, still needs to be more open world, more environmental effects, and a much heavier rules set adaptation. But, not a bad overall engine as a base, but still a ton of work. Zero scene experience to line up with what was done in BG3. Needs a ton of work on that entirely.

Tactical Adventure did the Solasta game. Really good and more accurate as far as 5e rules than BG3. But, again, if the expectation is similar to what made BG3 a big hit, engine isn't designed for moving the camera, is a bit outdated in graphics, doesn't have in-game scene elements, and needs much better writers/voice actors.

Owlcat of pathfinder games is another choice, even though they've recently moved on to WH40k licensed games. Again, though, the engine is the biggest issue here to match up, but it's a much better option overall than Tactical Adventure. Another question is writers/story telling, as much of their overall story telling bits are very limited with a lot of random worldbuilding elements that are just +\- of some attributes.

TBH, no matter who takes over, it's just not going to be like BG3 much like how BG3 isn't at all like BG1/2. And BG3 was so successful because of how much Larian was able to put in with their engine and how focused they were on players having ridiculous control over the story being told. I just don't see the next BG being the same and depending on what it is, it might be good but I'm not as big of a reach as BG3. It's way more likely players are going to go into BG4 (or its spiritual successor if it moves away from Baldur's Gate and into Neverwinter or something like Plansescape) expecting much of what is in BG3 with more options, new and older characters, and the same level of control over what they're doing. If it doesn't have that, regardless of who makes it, it won't be as successful, IMHO.

exputers3h ago

Yes, I completely concur.

As good and talented as inXile and Obsidian are in their own specific way of making their particular games, none of them have Larian's attention to detail, dynamic worlds, and reactivity, so even if they end up making a new Baldur's Gate, it's going to be a significant step-down in terms of gameplay if not narrative.

Probably not, but maybe… just maybe…

Evercade is a great little platform. Im surprised more dont know about it.

Vits1d 19h ago

It's a great idea, but I feel the execution could have been better, particularly concerning the quality of the consoles themselves and the fact that those carts are likely not going to last long, given the cheap, bottom-of-the-barrel flash memory they use.
