Amy Hennig talked about the rising costs of game development as a real problem. She said that loot boxes and the focus on games as a service are the publisher's answers to this issue and matters are made worse when people ask for single player games but don't actually buy them, preferring to watch online.
CGM Writes: While we were over at PAX East, we were able to sit down with Goichi Suda (Suda51) and talk about the upcoming remaster of Shadows of the Damned

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.
I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.
Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.
If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.
But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry
So they eventually don't pay their workers and depend on our tips to pay them like the case with waiters!
Is this a joke? How about the big wigs giving up some of their pay for their hard working developers.
I’d argue that people watch more MP games being played than SP as seen in Twitch. That doesn’t mean they don’t play the games. They just watch their fav personality playing games. Honestly I don’t have the time and patience to watch playthrougts. I just play the game myself
Did she ignore all the successful narrative based games in recent times
I guess I'm in the minority, I much prefer single player games over online focused multiplayer. I do wish more games allowed split screen multiplayer though, me and the wife still play Borderlands to get our fix.
Games might be getting pricier but that's on the studio and the creative decisions they take while making the next game. These are the people that push graphics and the other things for their game when the game sometimes dosen't need that to be the focus, at the end of the day that's on them not us, they raise the budget for the game. Then you sometimes have people like Remedy who bring in celebs and doing things like a live action TV show side segment that joint within the overall game, I mean owch...pricey no? Did we ask for that? Nope. We just wanted Alan Wake 2 and if it was going to be a new IP then why not just a standard game without the TV crap and overpaid celebs.
If we take Star Wars Battlefront 2 into consideration the game looked and sounded fantastic, it was beautiful and did justice to the environments and settings used in the Star Wars Universe but in the end because of the MTs, Loot boxes, generic gameplay, bugs and awfully written short story for the campaign it was really bad. In the end if someone did a game with graphics that looked half as good, reducing costs hopefully, BUT was just like the 2005 Battlefront II with a better and longer written campaign then more people would buy it. You'd gain a profit and wouldn't need lootboxes and MTs.
It's just being smart and knowing what you really need for your game at the end of the day. Take a look at Hellblade, that worked and it wasn't some over budget AAA game. You should start off slow with new games and push the sequel little by little...not going over the top. It's not like a huge, highly respect, now well known mega franchise like GTA needed MTs and a focus on the online. That game would have made a profit even if they never made GTA Online with a focus on MTs, they could have released an "Alien Invasion" expansion and they'd still rake it in. Some developers aren't smart pushing things which raise budgets in like the first or second game while others such as Rockstar or EA get greedy
I think Amy has Stockholm syndrome and has been brainwashed by EA.. This is basically exactly what i would expect to hear from any random EA executive.
