Sony is all the way up..... Nothing can stop me -(Fatjoe -song - all the way up) but all jokes aside, this is awesome, Sony is killing it. They are having amazing success and have been doing an amazing job.

At this rate they are going to really have an amazing end of year 2017.. They are on track to banging out the hits, DaysGone - The Last of Us 2 - God Of War 4 - GT Sport... I think they will get to 78 million sold easy.

And what an amazing year for gamers... I'm getting ready to join the 4K party and of course I want my PS4 Pro to compliment the new setup..

Sony have done an excellent job. They have good, solid hardware and an amazing lineup of exclusives. They deserve all of their success in gaming.

The fact that you just compared how close the PS4 sales are to the Wii, shows what a massive succes the PS4 is.

I hear what your saying but the wii was trash bought by anyone and everyone then caught dust, wii won't have software attach rates like ps4,, wii games were awful we all know it.

Yeah, but Wii attach rate and customer's amount of money they threw at it was nothing like on the PS4. Gamers love both playing PS4 and continuously buy games for it. The amount of money Sony made, invested and can make are entirely on a different level. They have Sony Financial Services (Sony Wallet, which is a great success among normal Japanese who want a good online global bank, and it is becoming a phenomenon in Asia, EU and US as well now) attached to it, PS Now, PS Vue etc. what not (revenue) streams that come through PS4 purchases. Sony also sells more 4K TVs and other SKUs, like Slim and Pro with the PS4 brand.

Business is much more complicated than simple hardware numbers pushed through to retailers. Apple sells less iPhones than Samsung sells mobiles, but Apple's users invest much more money into their ecosystem, and they get licensing fees etc like Sony.

Simply put, Wii didn't have the magnitude of ecosystem that PS4 has and will have in the future. Therefore, the amount of money made through that ecosystem is not comparable to a more static nature of Wii related sales. Nintendo did make some money with the peripherals, though, but it's different than having monthly subscribers for various services. Also, Wii was a trend (typically trends end fast, like Pokemon Go) and Playstation is and has been a continuous brand making money for decades.

The wii appealed to even grandparents lol. This is a real gaming console doing these numbers. This gen probably won't last long enough to surpass the wii.

This is consistent to what PlayStations normally actually sell , I mean you would have to consider the lowest selling PlayStation is in the ballpark of 90 million.

So it's Nintendo's fluke that had old people and random people purchasing it simply for the cultural Fad in the novel tea versus the consistency of the PlayStation which is actually always sold around this amount consistently since its debut in the nineties

So it's Nintendo's first 100 million sold for a console vs PlayStations 3rd system to possibly hit 100 million....

Considering the Wii U sold 14 million I want it really put too much stock in the 100 million that the wi sold simply because most of those people or not Gamers clearly that's showing now.

When you look at how PlayStation 4 selling now, and you actually look at what the Wii sold last generation , it would actually be better to sell 90 million last generation 28 loyal consistent healthy install base of real purchasers and sell it again this generation, then sell 100 million of casuals and then sell 14 million and then be forced to release a handheld rushed.

I mean when you look at the difference between the PlayStation 3 and the Wii it's in the ballpark of about 10 million units.

Except the people who purchase PlayStation 3 were actual Gamers that returned evident by the PlayStation 4 sales.

The wiis sales were a fluke, PlayStation console sales are legitimate sales by legitimate Gamers as to why they consistently sell every generation.

Even if it doesn't, Sony will still have 3 of the top 5 highest selling game consoles in history, which is nothing to scoff at.

People no shit what audience Wii is targeted towards. I have no doubt PS4 will eventually outsell it. I'm making a factual observation that it won't happen until 5-6 years into its lifespan.

Another observation to make is PS4 vs PS2 sales. PS4 started strong out the gate, but now its sales are on par with what PS2 was in the same timeframe. This demonstrates PS4's sales, although extremely great, dropped relatively significant over its third year vs PS2's third year. This just implies that PS4 may end up selling below or just on par with PS2 at the end of its lifecycle.

Who fucking cares?

Because when Sony does well it can mean more exclusive titles like Spider-Man. Companies look at how well they are doing and see how well there games are received and naturally want to be a part of that. It can also at times push the competition to reach higher which is good for gaming as it gives gamers more quality choices.

Why do people go crazy when their favourite team wins? What do they get out of it? They get absolutely nothing yet they jump up and down like mad people who have become millionaires. It's just the way humans are. We like to pick a side and when that side does well, it makes the people who support it proud and happy. This happens in every aspect of life. It's just the way we are and im sure you have quite a few examples of this in your own life.

Sales detemin support from developers. So folk are interested in sales/profits.

More sales equal more software for the box. Will make it easier for Sony to get backing from bug third party studios. Maybe leading them to secure titles for the title. Ladies and gentlemen we're going back to the ps2 era. Rise of the quality Japanese games and domination of Sony is bringing back good memories.

Oh just look at xbox and see why sales are important. Not one new IP that they launched this gen has been successful. On top of that look at how the third party exclusives titles that they launched failed as well.

Who cares if they are happy about Sony doing well why does it bother you and don't say it doesn't because it obviously does since you clicked on an article specifically about sales just to complain about people being happy

I actually am a Sony stockholder, and the stock has increased greatly since October 2013 when I bought it. So yes, I care. :)

I just dont understand this logic. If you're an owner of a product which is an investment, you should care about the numbers. Why? the number indicates the support of the product long term. If a system is doing badly, support for that system will dwindle. You look at what happened so far, call of duty, Bungie, etc... They are gave exclusives to PS4 because it has the largest ownership. More people with PS4's means more potential software sales. You compare the software sales between the Ps4 and the Xbox one, its almost 2 to 1. So yes, if youre an owner of a product (which is an investment) you better care about the sale numbers.
