Pure Opinion: Alan Wake is the Must-Play Xbox Exclusive That PlayStation Fans Need to Experience

Pure PlayStation writes, "One thing people always ask me when they find out I’m a gamer is, “What games do you like to play?” Then they find out I’m invested in the PlayStation brand and its eco-system. The next question usually revolves around my likeness to other platform games or if I straight out have an Xbox, too. Sorry, Nintendo, I don’t know why your name isn’t brought up most of the time but don’t worry, Smash Bros. will always be my favorite title of yours. Anyway, I tell them that I was never much into the Xbox but there was one exclusive video game that piqued my interest. It wasn’t Halo, Forza, Gears of War, or even Mass Effect when the first entry was an exclusive. The only Xbox game that made me go out, purchase it, bring it over to my cousin’s house, and play it was Alan Wake"

The only reason why i bought an Xbox 360 was to play this.

DarkOcelet2688d ago (Edited 2688d ago )

Alan Wake and Gears 1 were some of the best games on X360. I remember the first time i played Gears 1, it felt like a true next gen experience, i was blown away by it. Very few games were able to emulate that feeling for me.

Alan Wake was very special to me because it reminded me of the old school Silent Hill games which was something i sorely missed. Damn you to hell Konami for cancelling Silent Hills :(

mikeslemonade2688d ago

lol the Alan Wake is not an exclusive. You can play it on PC. And it's a older game so it will run on your pedestrian laptop. How many times do you have to explain that the xbox has no real exclusives.

DarkOcelet2688d ago

@mikeslemonade

I know its on PC. I have it on both X360 and PC. I meant back then it was exclusive.

Gamist2dot02687d ago

Ah, the good'ole days of enjoying X360's exclusives. And I'll never forget that epic trailer for Gears - Mad World by Gary Jules.

_-EDMIX-_2687d ago

Lol

I don't know what to say I played both of those games on PC ...

KillBill2687d ago

@mikeslemonade - to be fair. Many Playstation Titles can be played across many different devices. And, yes for the most part, they are all Sony owned devices. But saying MS Titles sold on Windows systems (which is a part of MS ecosystem) isn't a similar situation is a bit disingenuous. (especially with current Titles that are tied to Win 10 specifically)

Maybe the fact he said Xbox Exclusive makes us think that it is only on Xbox? But in fact it really just states that the Title is exclusive publishing to MS/Xbox (yes as gamers we tend to associate a company by its system name) where they have the option to allow it where they want.

So yes it is still exclusive publishing to MS/Xbox and the difference between it and maybe Playstation Titles is that Sony just tends to not focus as much on PC, likely because they aren't pushing an owned PC operating system.

If you are purchasing the game then you are supporting MS/Xbox in their exclusive publishing of the title for their systems. Whether it be a hard console or Operating System, you are supporting their games and systems. Congrats.

Also, that Minecraft game appearing outside of Microsoft ecosystem on PS4, PS3, PSVITA, Android, and iOS... supporting MS with a purchase. ;)

To put it another way. If it isn't on a system you want to play it on then it is exclusive to others and not that system. Get over it.

I'm a PS-only owner, and I have both Alan Wake and American Nightmare and play them just fine. I completely disagree, however, that they're must-play experiences. I thought they were tedious.

Tussin1872687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

Yes sir. I remember the 1st Gears and it was amazing. Never played Alan Wake and I wish I did. After I went through 3 360s I kind of gave up on the system. On thing I do miss is playing Remedy games. I know I would have probably liked QB too despite all the hate. I'm one of the few who liked The Order. We all know how that went as well. Oh and I remember Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Loved that game!!! If that game had voice controls for your squad like the original Socom on PS2, I would have been in heaven. Why squad-based games don't use voice control still baffles my mind? Loved it on Socom and I hated they got rid of it too on the PS3. Love being a gamer. I have enjoyed a lot of great games in my lifetime.

bouzebbal2687d ago

I have it and it's really boring. Never finishes it has a repetitive gamelay

GamingIVfun2687d ago

Enjoyed the game but it's not a must play game (7.5 out of 10), played it on a PC and Xbox 360.

Artemidorus2687d ago

Gears were utter turd to me. Never understood why people played it

Alan wake, Gears, Dead Rising and back the the original Mass Effect and Bioshock were exclusive. They were my reasons for buying an xbox.

CrimsonPheonix2687d ago

There were. Not so much now.

While I did enjoy it. This wasn't the reason I bought one. I think Gears was for me. It was the most stunning game I had seen at the time. I couldn't believe games could look that good.

Also Oblivion.

Christopher2687d ago

Personally didn't care for the game that much. I thought QB was a better game in every aspect other than story.

It`s my favorite 360 title by far.

lastking952687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

That's bad for alanwake cause you tend to have horrible taste in games lol. Ive own him so many times he cant take no more xD.

When someone hypes nms, then call all bad reviews "haters and paid off by ms" then finally admit the game is bad after countless reviews and defending, yes. I can judge you on taste lol. However we all know overload is one of the biggest fanboys on this site so it doesnt take much to see he's full of it.

Overload2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Ignored.

ninsigma2687d ago

Yes because you're the authority on good taste in games right??
What was the point in your comment??

Why such articles that steer hate and fanboyism? Every console has it's own pros and cons including games. If I want to play something I can't play, because I don't own the console that specific game is on, I'll save money and buy it along the console it's on, where's the problem?

DashArrivals2688d ago

No. You can play it on PC with an average PC

KillBill2687d ago

And an MS owned Operating System. They allowed it to be published on their own ecosystem. Pushing their Operating system... simple as that.

DashArrivals2687d ago

What's your point? I've got a cracked version of Windows 10 on my PC without the stupid 'activate' watermark. I will always have some form of Windows as my operating system, but I will NEVER own an Xbox. It's just not worth it at all. So if this article resonates with some playstation fan that they NEED to play this game... then play it on PC. Xbox console is irrelevant. Just my opinion.

senis_kenis2687d ago

I played it on linux, runs just fine on wine. Don't need ms crap os on my pc

KillBill2687d ago (Edited 2686d ago )

@DashArrivals @senis_kenis - the very fact you guys are pirating and or jumping through hoops to try and avoid any support of MS and yet you are playing their game is just too funny.

@nitus10 - try reading my statement again. I mentioned both in same sentence and identified they pirated AND OR jumped through hoops. Obviously Dash was the identified pirate (and jumping through hoops) and senis was simply the jumping through hoops. And yes running Linux and using Wine and playing while jumping through hoops to think they aren't supporting MS. And the fact senis is still playing the purchased game shows support for MS publishing of it. And even Dash only mentions a pirated version of Win and not of the game so he too is supporting MS with their publishing rights to the game.

@Angeljuice - so you haven't played the game then... your loss.

Angeljuice2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

@KillBill

I'm the same, Microsoft will never get a single penny from me.

It may seem petty, but they are one of the few companies I hate with a passion. I hate the way they got started, I hate the founders, I hate their way of doing business, I hate everything about them.

They represent everything I hate in a global brand. From monopolisation of the OS space to purchasing superior tech and companies just to kill off the competition (rather than integrate into their inferior software).

I just hate the way they go about things and refuse point blank to support them financially.

Many will say "that's just stupid" or "as if they're worried about missing your tiny contribution to their coffers", but I choose to stick to my morals and integrity.

nitus102687d ago

@KillBill

Where did "senis_kenis" say he/she pirated "Alan Wake" for his Linux-based PC?

You can actually get a legitimate copy of Alan Wake for about $30 USD on Steam although you can get it allot cheaper if you wait for a sale.

If you have a Linux-based PC (I have one) you can run games that were meant for MS Windows under compatibility software such as Wine of which you don't need a Microsoft license. You can even run a Microsoft OS under a virtual machine although it is usually advisable that you have a reasonably powerful machine and (of course) a legitimate Windows license.

@Angeljuice

I am a Linux only person not because I hate Microsoft it is mainly because I don't trust them. With my system I can pretty much do everything I want and have even worked in a Microsoft-centric environment without issue although it is nice to be able to tell management to "go jump" (politely of course) since I am using my own personal laptop.

madmonkey012687d ago

you can play it without windows. any more spin?

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran82d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto2d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia2d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger2d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie2d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

2d ago
Profchaos2d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie2d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh2d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

A thermos is upending the Alan Wake community

Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
