Gran Turismo Sport Delayed until 2017

Polyphony has delayed their latest racing simulator, Gran Turismo Sport, from November, 15 2016 until 2017. No new specific release date has been given.

Founder of Polyphony, Kazunori Yamauchi said, “While we cannot confirm a new release date at this time, we are more committed than ever to making GT Sport the best Gran Turismo game to date.”

Every game is getting delayed. This is just bulls**t

nix2794d ago

gotta admit. this news sucks.

TripleCs2794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

All the games that were supposed to come out in 2015 were delayed. Uncharted 4, Street Fighter 5, No Mans Sky and Rachet & Clank were all delayed and came out this year instead and games like Horizon and GT Sport that were supposed to come out this year were delayed till next year. I'm starting to notice a trend here.. At this point I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if The Last Guardian was delayed too, I honestly wouldn't.

InTheZoneAC2794d ago

relax, devs just need to stop announcing expected release dates so people like you quit crying over any setback...

Delays are the result of good intentions, not bad ones...

C-H-E-F2794d ago

@Shin

The developers don't set the dates, the publishes and execs do. This is the issue they set the date on a magical timeline thinking that developers will bend their backs to meet it. We are human, we have families... some don't work as hard, some bugs occur that take weeks to resolve. I remember 1 time I was making a change to this 5k line implementation file and I kind of destroyed it, went to go to the backup and it dawned on me that i checked out the original and didn't clone it. lOl I had spent about a week fixing it back to the state it was before I screwed it up...

I'm just saying that to say this... sometimes ish happens, I'm disappointed in delays as well, but 9/10 these dates are set by higher ups that aren't even in touch with what it takes to make the idea and real life game...

nX2794d ago

I've gotten used to delays this gen but I would've expected Polyphony to keep their schedules after the fiasco otherwise known as Gran Turismo 5.

It's actually quite understandable that with better hardware and more competition expectations are raised automatically and a wise Nintendo president once said "A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever" so I definitely don't mind delays... but the amount of delays as well as some shady marketing campaigns just show the lack of professionalism this industry would desperately need at this point.

opoikl2794d ago

Let's all hope Kaz spent some time with Assetto Corsa and he decided to give his sound design a complete overhaul. There's a lot GT can learn from AC...

deafdani2794d ago

@nX: it was Miyamoto who said that quote, not any Nintendo president.

migh_and_highty2794d ago

I said that recently and got a bunch of downvotes. I dont think sony have a single major release that hasn't been delayed. This is a problem that they have to sort! Stop announcing dates if you cant effing meet them! Ever since driveclub and infamous to 3 years later to Gran turismo sport.

darthv722794d ago

Enhanced Neo VR mode incoming.

fr0sty2794d ago

C'mon guys, it wouldn't be a GT game without at least one delay.

zb1ftw7772794d ago

False.

Every playstation game is getting delayed.

Microsoft have been pumping out hit after hit after hit lately.

With more to come.

Ive played Forza Horizon 3 and i can tell you it is incredible.

freshslicepizza2794d ago

sony really needs to lay down the ban hammer on these guys or at the very least hire a new project manager. they waste so much time.

this is from 2013!

“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7,” Kazunori told us. “Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3’s architecture, but of course the PS4’s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it”.

http://www.topgear.com/car-...

nobody wants games rushed especially a franchise like gt but this is getting ridiculous even for them.

SolidStoner2794d ago

It sucks when games get delayed ...

but we have to take in mind that in this new era of gaming games get more complex, with higher standards and get more time to develop overall..

PD is know for its delays and also known for its perfection.

ULTp0ltergeist2794d ago

As if we weren't expecting this to happen? Nothing surprising and most of all another one from Sony.

bouzebbal2794d ago

this sucks big time, but was expected and too good to be released this soon after reveal.
Now i'm left with FFXV, Gravity Rush, The Last Guardian, COD, UC4 (i havent bought it yet), VR and DQ7 (3DS). I think i can wait with all of this but it still sucks.

See Polyphony is keeping up with their tradition of delays. Looks like I'll be getting FH 3 earlier than I planned.

Rude-ro2794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

@BadBoyC
I am almost certain that the last guardian will be pushed. It has been way to quiet for a game that is suppose to be released in a timeframe we can now start counting in weeks... :(
But, I am for delays. It is a lose lose situation but I will take the loss that leads to a better performing game at release over a broken game releasing on time. Driveclub is fantastic but we all know how that released played out.

CaptainObvious8782794d ago

If the game needs more time I'm for it, but...

...Polyphony... can you pull your thumbs out of your &$^%# and release more than 1 game every 6 fing years. ffs.

mocaak2794d ago

What are you talking about, they release games every three years. If not for the delay this game would have released three years after GT6.

XanderZane2794d ago

Is anyone surprised? I'm not. I can wait. I still have Forza Horizon 3 and Assetto Corsa I can play this year.

mike32UK2794d ago

Anyone who didn't see this coming is a fool. In fact I'd go as far as saying PD knew full well this game was never going to come out this year. Even weeks after it was announced they were saying how it was only 60% complete. GT5 took an age to release... So will this one.

showtimefolks2794d ago

when it was announced i knew than it wasn't coming in 2016. this was a 2017 title from day one (in my mind)

and could these companies not give out release windows. just show the games 6-9 months before they will be ready to be released

blackblades2794d ago

I understand if something unexpected happened and it really needed it. Other then that they should hold off on announcing release dates until there 100% sure it'll coming out that date.

boomtube19872794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

Well Forza horizon looks like Kendall Jenner is waiting for u in bed. The Bed GT has ready for you was with Hilary Clinton so work needs to be done.,..they made the right decision.

Eron-852794d ago

same shit happened with Gt5 FOLKS, and expect a lot more delays.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2794d ago

Driveclub VR. Now that's the ticket!

Shubhendu_Singh2794d ago

I get it. Delayed game are delayed for a reason, but c'mon man...

I was hoping GTS could be the VR launch title with PSVR.
People here know I am pro-Sony. But Polyphony should learn something from Turn10 at this point.
I know GTS or GT7 will massively outsell anything remotely close to its competition but they got to quicken up their game pace.

As I said, I get the delay, I support it.
But you can't deny that it is getting a little annoying.

lxtrxi2794d ago

I wouldn't expect GTS to "massively outsell" the competition, the series has suffered a lot since its glory days

Shubhendu_Singh2794d ago (Edited 2793d ago )

I seriously doubt it.
Even at its lowest, which was GT5, where it released only on PS3 when PS4 was already on the market (unfortunate timing) STILL sold more than 5M copies.

I have no doubts over GT brands ability to sell when the time comes.
edit: My bad. I meant GT6. GT5 sold 12M copies.

lxtrxi2794d ago

Don't get me wrong, it's the most successful and recognizable racing game ever, just saying this doesn't seem like a mainline entry and I don't see it doing the 10M+ that older entries on PSX/PS2/PS3 would easily do

Neonridr2794d ago

@Shubhendu_Singh - you mean when the install base of the PS3 was over 70 million and they still only sold 5 million copies?

Aloy-Boyfriend2794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

Another one who doesn't know that 70 million sold doesn not equal 70 million active users...

2pacalypsenow2794d ago

GT on PsP almost sold 5 million

MaxedOutGamer2794d ago

I totally agree. I was a huge fan of the GT 1, 2, 3 & 4, but I think they've lost their way and have been overshadowed by the competition. Forza goes toe to toe with Gran Turismo and they release one every year! I could understand taking 3+ years and delivering the ultimate racing game, but when it gets released, its mediocre at best.

Goldby2794d ago

@Shub

I think you meant gt6 as gt5 was a ps3 only game when there was no ps4

LexHazard792794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

@Xi , I hope that applies Xbox aswell when the arguement of install base vs sales comes up.

BazingaReturns2794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

@Neonridr

"you mean when the install base of the PS3 was over 70 million and they still only sold 5 million copies?"

Yes and 5 million is fantastic number for a racer. How much have porject cars or AC or any other sim racer sold on pc that have 100m+ base?

You should quit downplaying everything PS, funny how you always say that you own a ps4 but most of the time you are found downplaying one thing or the other in ps articles. Your schtick is getting old buddy.

nix2794d ago

@singh,

the game was GT6. Not GT5. GT6 sold 5 millions. GT5 sold ~12 millions.

_-EDMIX-_2794d ago

Lol you mean a series that still outsells its competition with almost every single release? Gran Turismo 5 sold more copies than the entire Forza franchise combined.....

MatrixxGT2794d ago

And this is just one of the reasons. GT5 got how many delays. I was quite sure we would get GT sport this year. It was the next title on ps4 I was looking forward to since horizon got delayed.

This really sucks, much faith lost in PD and GT as a series.

Aceman182794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

@shu

GT5 sold over 10 million units, while GT6 did 6 million (I believe they said with digital including not sure) The lowest preforming GT has still sold more than each single iteration of Forza which has to be bundled to achieve its million plus sales numbers.

http://www.polyphony.co.jp/...

This link shows the numbers

donthate2794d ago

Yup, and this is just another nail in the coffin for the GT series. I mean, GT Sports is a paired down VR focused version and is essentially the main entry into the series at this point.

That's not a good sign!

Annoying, yes. Driveclub vr should fill that gap though.

InMyOpinion2794d ago

Not for me. I've already owned and played Driveclub to death, and it's no GT or Forza.

Rude-ro2794d ago

Are they not all the same?
It is not like it is going to be any different from every year prior.

Onenyte2794d ago (Edited 2794d ago )

I thought I was the only one thinking that ...

and anyone that is here talking about justifying GT over Forza got TRIGGERED af lol

LonDonE2794d ago

That is likely why it was delayed! Sony is trying to milk every last penny from drive club.

I own and game on all platforms and must admit I have been disappointed with Sony so far this gen.
I expect better from them and sadly I just knew this delay was coming!

deafdani2794d ago

GT5 released years before the PS4. Maybe you meant GT6?

memots2794d ago

Not denying that this sucks massively.
I had this game on my day 1 budget.

And i also agree, this needed to be release with PsVr. This is bad period.

The Lasting Legacy Gran Turismo Sport Had On A New Generation Of Sim Racers

On the day that Gran Turismo Sport’s online services are switched off for good, a reflection on how impactful the game was for the sim racing industry.

purple10184d ago

fantastic game

innovative match making with player ettiquite tasked into account

GT7 improves on it with:

all the same tracks + loads more tracks
all the same cars + loads more cars
improved / new physics
dualsense support + haptics for road bumps
improved lighting + weather changable mid race
much more vast one player races, challenges, leagues etc.

more of an iteration than a revelation, but what they improve, they have improved so drastically it is deffo worth getting.

Why Gran Turismo Sport’s Final Update Bodes Well for GT7's Preservation

GT Sport, like Gran Turismo 7, requires internet to save. But now that its servers are going dark, that requirement is being removed.

Gran Turismo Sport Has Been Delisted From PS Store

Sony Interactive Entertainment has delisted Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store as of January 1, 2024.

ApocalypseShadow110d ago

The great digital future. Where games vanish. The benefits of digital just aren't enough over physical to every buy in 100 percent. Especially when my Atari games still work and can be played to this day over 40 years later. Some of these digital games don't even last a whole generation.

purple101110d ago

But in this case everyone who has it still has it

And they unlocked single player to be allowed to progress offline

ApocalypseShadow109d ago (Edited 109d ago )

But in the case of others, they can no longer can buy it or any delisted game. Just like online only games that get their servers turned off and there's no update for offline with bots.

If you like the idea of any digital game being delisted where it's no longer available at all, then you and others are fools. What's all that presentation bullshit guys like you spew?

There should be no reason any digital game should be removed. Ever.

Bathyj109d ago

Apocalypse no one likes it. But let's be clear here.

If you own the game, you still own it. All that's happening here is they are stopped selling it.

Why? I have no clue. But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm.

If you want to complain about servers for an online game being shut down, go ahead. But that's a separate topic and can happen to any online game even with a physical disc.

fan_of_gaming108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

@Bathyj "But it's the exact same thing if your local best buy isn't stocking the disc anymore and Sony aren't making any more. Same thing, just in the digital realm."

It isn't the exact same thing at all. When a game gets a physical release, it is always available even if big-box retailers aren't selling it new anymore. For example, I can go on eBay today and buy a new & sealed copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS3, because it once had a physical release. However I cannot buy a copy of Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron for PS4 today, because it had a digital-only release and was delisted.

If Gran Turismo Sport had a digital-only release, it would be unavailable for anyone to buy ever again. But because it had a physical release, in 5 years someone that wants to play it can still acquire it.

Cacabunga108d ago

People should stand against digitalization

purple101108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

I have only brought one or two digital games in my life
Everything I buy is physical

Often from eBay in perfect condition.
Sometimes from a online shop in uk such as

365games
Shopto.net
Simplygames
Base.com

All, who will ship disk to your door on day of release, cheaper than buying from digital store.

Then I either keep, lend, or sell. My choice

No where, did I say I support digital. And yet someone even called me a fool,
Haha
Totally misunderstood, some would say, he’s the fool

With GtSport It ISNT being taken away from anyone who already owns it. So this has all got out of hand with people not even reading the article

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 108d ago
DigitallyAfflicted109d ago

Maybe this will make people realise the future of digital-only games

purple101109d ago

This one won’t though
Because it’s not de-listed and taken away from you
It’s just not on sale anymore and the multiplayer will be shut down soon I reckon. It released 2017 so it’s had a fair run of 5 years online multiplayer lobbies

DigitallyAfflicted109d ago

@Purple, but it could be taken away, like p.t. Demo was, as well is taken away from anyone who didn't purchase GTsport in a digital form and yes I know we can still buy disc version and it's not a big of a deal.

My point is that you can't own something if it's not physical, with digital-only content you pay for the right to download and use and possibly in the future there will be some laws regulating you rights to it…

blackblades109d ago

I mean y'all been whining about that since the ps3 era. To this day im still able to play all the games I payed for.

ApocalypseShadow109d ago (Edited 109d ago )

It won't. Fools like purple think that just because they can still download it now, that it's safe. I've bought multiple games on console and mobile that are no longer downloadable or function. Because the game was either delisted or since it was connected to the Internet, no longer works because the servers were shut down turning those games into coasters. With no update to be able to play some games offline with bots. They're gone.

He won't get it or care until it happens to him and some of his games are delisted and removed or don't work any more even if he "bought it "

EvertonFC109d ago (Edited 109d ago )

If you don't keep your old consoles, your physical disk will be useless too. Do you think console hardware or disk drives will be around in 20 years. Good luck with that.
I'm not saying it's right btw, just pointing out to the physical crowd that digital and physical are very alike when it comes to actually being able to play the games in the future like 20 years time.
When I'm in my care home, I don't expect to be able to play my old digital or physical collection as consoles won't be around or disk drives for playstation.
Unless your keeping the old consoles safe in the attic over time, nobody will be playing there old physical game collections.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 109d ago
EvertonFC109d ago

If you bought a physical launch day copy of GTS you still won't be able to download any of the updates in 20 years when servers are off.
Plus there will be no such thing as a disk drive or a hardware box for that matter in 20 years unless you keep your old consoles.
My point is sadly your physical or digital copy won't work.

Barlos108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

I see this as the digital equivalent of physical games going out of print. They don't continue to make copies forever, at some point they will stop making it, usually when sales dry up and I guess for GT sport that happened some time ago. Also, in the digital world, storage space is not infinite. If a game is no longer selling, why would they waste space on keeping it available?

For those that already own the digital version, they will still have access to it.

frostypants108d ago

I generally agree, but GT Sport is primarily an online game. They probably have some reluctance to deal with the blowback of selling an online-oriented game that may not have active servers much longer. Admittedly that's a whole other issue in itself.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 108d ago
Father__Merrin108d ago

Online based titles like this I wouldn't expect to last forever as the game has been updated iterations as in gt7

Same with if FIFA 20 was delisted as example there's update to game. If something like Uncharted collection was delisted then that's something that's bad

Agent75108d ago

You pay stupid money for digital games and DLC, then it goes missing. Who's laughing?

shinoff2183108d ago

Physical games for yet another win.
