Activision CEO: MW Remastered Is Our Biggest Bonus Content Ever, It's a Benefit of the 3-Year Cycle

According to Activision CEO Eric Hirsberg, Modern Warfare Remastered is the biggest bonus content ever produced for Call of Duty and it wouldn't have been possible without the three year development cycle.

Sorry, but how is this bonus content? You have to pay extra for it by buying a special edition of the new game, so it's only bonus in the same way that buying a brand new game from fresh is bonus content. I love Modern Warfare, it was a shining example of how to make a good modern-style FPS game - something that Activision seemed to have quickly forgot - and if they had released it separately I would have already prepurchased it.

However, they have locked it behind editions for Infinite Warfare in a cheap tactic to sell those special editions, which will work. After that, maybe six months down the line, they'll release it separately and for that reason alone it's a game I can't ever bring myself to buy. Maybe if they'd released in alongside as a separate game, but not since it's being used as a cheap tactic to sell the new game and then being promoted as "bonus content".

Majin-vegeta2800d ago

You forgot. You're only getting half the damn maps that it came with in 2007

Thatguy-3102800d ago

Don't worry the rest will come as dlc later on lol -_-*sigh* crazy how they get away with doing shady things like this.

Kokyu2799d ago (Edited 2799d ago )

If people would just not buy it things would get better but the ADD generation cant seem to do that.

yezz2799d ago

@_-EDMIX-_

That's just really hard man.

I stopped buying Call of Duties after BO2 but it hasn't changed anything. I've been waiting for a CoD 4 remaster for all these years and now that it's finally coming, it's packed into this crappy special package thing.. So frustrating!

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

@yezz- lol, I don't think I'm being that hard. if they are calling something a bonus, the must stand by that, this remaster is only coming to those who buy a certain version. Mind you, I had no issue even paying full price for the new COD if it came with COD4 remaster. For Amazon's Prime members, new games are like $47 lol.

I stopped playing after MW2, I really hated that game lol. Because of all the junk they kept adding, I just couldn't get into it like I was into the previous ones, put like 600 hours in COD4 across 2 platforms, LOVED IT!

I would buy that version this fall to get COD4, but I just don't have the time. Already planning on playing BF1,FFXV and Last Guardian. I'll wait til its separate.

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

@Kokyu- "If people would just not buy it" lol

No.

I mean.....I get what you mean, but no. I haven't bought a COD since COD MW2, but I don't blame the people that do like COD current. This is the reality of what it is. Someone likes it and they have all their right to buy what they like. I'm all for changes for the better, but not by simply getting mad at consumers who buy the series. I don't care for what COD is right now more then the next guy, mind you, THOUSANDS of hours I have clocked into the series COD4 and below lol, but I won't trash talk consumers about what companies do.

I'd say, seriously don't disrespect other gamers merely for having different taste then you, someone likes COD, we might think the new ones are trash, sure.....but someone likes it and they are free to buy it all they wish. I don't believe in bashing consumers who buy what they like in this strange way to manipulate the market lol

The Market is organic, its dynamic, its ever changing, it can't really be forced, over time things will naturally fall into place. Look at AC, the series lost some sales last year... Some of us may not like it, I get it.....but please refrain from calling names or bashing those that do, as if they should NOT buy what they like, to help you out.

No one is buying BAD games based on principle of helping honest developers...

Why should someone NOT BUY what they feel is a good game based on hurting evil companies?

Mind you, I by the way hate the current COD's, I hate many games, but I won't bash those that buy or like those games simply based on this idea of manipulating the market for this concept of a greater good. I just find it tasteless and immature.

ZombieKiller2799d ago

Oh no worries there....I'm sure they will give us the remaining maps.....in another season pass.

I don't know why they didn't just put all effort into recreating this game entirely. Release the remastered game as is. Then sell a season pass with maps from the campaign (Giant Ferris Wheel anyone?) that we didn't get and a zombies mode. This time make it serious, I don't wanna see Zombies in Spaceland.
Kill streaks, extractions, civilian rescue.....the possibilities are endless.

Honestly....where did all the creativity go?!

Phunkydiabetic12799d ago

@Thatguy-310

Do you even understand the meaning of "shady" in the context you tried to put it in? There isn't anything shady about what they are doing.

Perjoss2799d ago

"crazy how they get away with doing shady things like this."

They do it because they know they can get away with it, they know some people will pay up and that's all they care about. If more people refused this they would stop it.

IceKoldKilla2799d ago

I thought it had 14. This comes with 10. How is that half? Unless you include the DLC.

I completely agree.

for a company to State this as bonus content, they need to be using the correct term, a bonus implies that it's being given as an extra at no extra cost...

Granted this is the best special edition content never provided in my opinion, but I do not see this as a bonus it's not being given to me for free at no extra cost outside the purchase of the game. They need to stop with that lie.

Dirtnapstor2799d ago

It's only problematic in terms of semantics if you were not interested in the full game with the season pass.
For if you had been planning on buying the complete package (digitally), then technically the MW remaster would be free.
Simple comparison to previous COD installments.

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

@Dirtnap- "if you had been planning on buying the complete package (digitally), then technically the MW remaster would be free"

I mean...that really isn't what we are talking about though...

Its adding a value of "bonus" to something you have to pay extra to get in the first place. ie you get a statue of a character in a ultimate edition, we can't just say "oh its free" or "bonus" simply because you were ALWAYS planning to buy the ultimate edition. The VERSION of the thing you are buying MUST BE a certain version to GET that "bonus" thus....its not a "bonus" it comes at a cost. They are not giving this to every gamer who buys any version of the next COD.

THAT would be a bonus. To just call anything a bonus based on what your personally are buying makes no sense. It is for you, but we are not saying that in regards to specific people, we are saying what the term means in general.

Thats like me saying I'm buying BF1 and the Season Pass, so one of the extra maps they throw in is a bonus for getting the season pass. I mean.....if I HAVE to buy the Season Pass (clearly and the game) to get this "bonus" its not a "bonus" its a requirement for me to buy a version or feature etc to get it. Its not any extra, once you have to pay for something extra, buy a certain version etc, that term "bonus" becomes a slippery slope lol

badz1492799d ago

@Dirt

that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works! who taught you economics? Apple?

PSN_ZeroOnyx2799d ago

What about all the bonus' given in collectors editions? Figurines, toys, art books, sound tracks and even bonus digital stuff like outfits, gear and so on. Paid bonus' are not new a thing, and I'm almost certain everyone on N4G has bought at least one collectors edition for the paid bonus' included in it, physical or digital bonus' or both.

Nathan_Hale532799d ago

That is why I am not buying either game. I will buy the remaster if the sell it separate for no more than $40. But I will grab it on sale anyway.

nitus102799d ago

In principle, I do agree with you. Unfortunately, there is a problem with that logic.

The main problem with allot of online games is that when the servers are switched off or there is little interest in the game since most have moved on to the next shiny the game is effectively wasted space on your hard drive or just a coaster. Of course, if the game has a campaign mode that can be played without going online that is fine but in the majority of cases the campaign is short and can get tedious over time.

Nathan_Hale532798d ago (Edited 2798d ago )

@nitus10

I'd buy it for the campaign alone. All Ghillied Up, and One Shot, One Kill, are two of my favorite FPS missions of ALL time. Definitely top 5. I'd also do private servers with some buds. CoD 4 on PC is still alive and well, and may only die off if this game released separate.

opinionated2799d ago

It is bonus content... What he's saying is that it's the same as the stupid remote control cars and such that came with collectors editions. Those R/c cars were locked behind a game paywall as well. He's saying the 3 years gave them enough time to include something like that instead of some of the useless junk they have sold in the past. The good news is that the cod4 remaster will be available as a stand alone eventually.

Fist4achin2799d ago

Show them with our wallets that we don't want to get junk along with something that was amazing. Don't support it. Activision hasn't collected a penny from me since the original BLOPS. I loved MW, but this is just like dangling a carrot in front of our faces...

Xb1ps42799d ago

It's crazy how marketing works,.. Imagine if the ceo simply advertised this as simply a special edition..... Not "bonus content" but simply said, this is our version of special edition.....

It's crazy how a lot of these big shot guys are so out of touch... And most of the time they are out of touch simply because they are over paid, simply either cause they know the right ppl or they rightfuly earned a degree but have no clue how that certain business should be promoted because all they know is the numbers and how to run a pc... I know I deal with it at my job...

But with all that said shit will go as normal, the game will go on to sell millions..

RedDevils2799d ago

I wonder why people even bother buying these trash.

Ravenor2799d ago

they bundled COD Classic (CoD1) with Hardened editions of MW2, it was sold separately like a week later.

PSN_ZeroOnyx2799d ago

You do realize paid bonus' have been around for a very long time. Every special/deluxe/collectors edition ECT have given toys, gadgets, and extras of all sorts including digital bonus' to those willing to pay more. I'm not saying they are right or wrong, I'm just saying a bonus is a bonus whether it's paid or free.

Paytaa2800d ago

Should've made it this year's CoD instead of being packaged with arguably the worst looking CoD to date for a premium price.

Pretty much the only way they'd get me to play CoD again.

ThePope2800d ago

You said arguably so its a fair statement. But I think it looks sweet!

Paytaa2800d ago

That's fair as well, I don't speak for everyone. I just think they've strayed way too far from the simplistic formula that made Call of Duty the phenomenon that it is. CoD 4 was the breakout success for the series; coming out at a time where it was basically only Halo dominating the FPS market by itself and CoD 4 offered the casual but deep gameplay alternative.

Maybe I'm just too old for CoD now since I'm no longer the target audience, but I feel franchise fatigue is catching up and I think personally they should wait a few years and then reboot the series starting in either WW2 or modern day again.

It's perfectly fine if you enjoy modern-CoD, it's just not for me.

ThePope2800d ago (Edited 2800d ago )

@Paytaa

Thats the thing I don't enjoy CoD for the most part. I like Sci Fi though so this gets me going. I completely agree with you. This is just like Rockband. The devs talk about how awesome and new everything is. But were just going through the motions at this point. And Activison is just racking in the dough and they dont care if the franchise were to die as long as they have a replacement.

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

@pay- AMEN!!

All I want is 3 kills radar
5 kills airstrike
7 kills helicopter

...nothing more

It's why I prefer the battlefield series as the concept Remains the Same even if they include some nuances the concept always Remains the Same at the core. Because of all the games releasing this fall I'm now thinking about just waiting for the Call of Duty 4 remastered when it's available separately.

DeadlyOreo2799d ago

Same. Infinite Warfare looks pretty decent from what I see.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2799d ago
Alexious2800d ago

That's why they did it. This way, you're forced to get Infinite Warfare...Activision is not dumb.

FunAndGun2799d ago

No, but the Activision consumers are.

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago (Edited 2799d ago )

Lol now I completely disagree with that because it doesn't really make any sense.

They can do both as they're doing right now but I feel they could have spent more time actually fully 100% remastering the game as suppose to some of it.

edit- Dark is correct, this is more so a remake then a remaster and I think its actually pretty dumb of them to even call it a remaster when they've clearly remade the game lol, for how? Remake would sound SOOOOOO much more epic and covey actually what this is. This is clearly more then just some touch up.

Dark_Knightmare22799d ago

Dude have you not watched the comparison videos of the remake it's night and freaking day. Seriously people can hate cod all they want but one thing that cannot be said is that Activision half assed the mw remaster because they most Def didn't. It looks damn near like a native ps4/x1 game

DragoonsScaleLegends2799d ago

It can't look any worse than AW and BO3.

Paytaa2799d ago

AW is trash. I think BO3 gameplay is fun and fluid but it shouldn't be a Call of Duty game. Should be it's own separate IP in my opinion.

Dark_Knightmare22799d ago (Edited 2799d ago )

Worse looking cod to date lol get out of here. This isn't the announcement trailer where everybody hated because its "call of booty" that ridiculousness has passed. The e3 showing was a big hit even after people that liked it tried to hate once cod popped up on screen at the end because you know that's the cool thing to do and it's been getting pretty much nothing but positive previews since than. On top of all this they actually went above and beyond with the cod 4 remaster where it looks like a native ps4 and x1 game when they could have done the bare minimum and people would still have ate it up. Besides I have no problem paying an extra twenty dollars for the mw remaster since I was already buying infinite warfare. I'm one of those weird people who only play cod for the campaign because their just fun, Michael Bay like entertainment and with infinite warfare story mode actually looking pretty good and the legendary mw campaign also included and able to be played thirty days early on ps4 I'm more than set with the 80 dollar package

Aurenar2800d ago

Modern Warfare Remastered is going to be so much better than Infinite Warfare

CaptainFaisal2800d ago

CoD 4 but with better graphics and 10 Maps compared to the NEW CoD IW with a new zombie experience and command your own space fleet in space, and a MP rumored to be something different and amazing.

2799d ago
Paytaa2799d ago

So you're saying just because Infinite Warfare is new it will be better than CoD4? A game that literally broke new ground in a genre and is regarded as one of the best games ever created?

If they just did the CounterStrike treatment to the CoD4 forumla where it gets updated every like 5 years, I would still be playing it.

Even the name Infinite Warfare sounds like one of those clickbait Youtube videos from 2009 speculating what the next CoD will be called.

annoyedgamer2799d ago

Im sure it will be amazing...not

Nathan_Hale532799d ago

Zombies is trash now. Hasn't been good in a while. They make these unfunny, cringey characters, either have mediocre map design or really overly complex map design that isn't fun. I miss Black ops 1 and WaW zombies. Just get WaW on PC and get a few of the hundreds of FREE custom maps.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2799d ago
_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

lol. I personally agree, but in terms of design clearly IW is going to be better by default.

Ironically enough, if I even got the version for the game that gave COD4.....I wouldn't even play IW lol I'm legit willing to just sell it never playing it.

I got COD Ghost for free on PS4's launch......played 30 minutes....stopped caring for it. LAUNCH FOLKS! lol Someone is wrong, when a platform launches, you got a limited number of games to play.......get a free title.....still don't play it lol I just don't see me getting into the new COD series, I just want classic COD.

Garethvk2800d ago

What we saw at E3 looked great.

ccgr2800d ago

If the price is right I'll consider it

OldGuyStillGaming2800d ago

During the holidays I think it'll eventually drop to the $40-$50 range and if it does then I'll get it just to relive the COD4 multiplayer and campaign

Alexious2799d ago

Yeah, especially on PC it will drop fast.
