Battlefield 1 Premium Announcement Shows EA Haven't Listened to Their Fans

The announcement of Battlefield 1 Premium this week came as a hard pill to swallow for fans hoping the paid service would get the chop.

Majin-vegeta2799d ago

The only problem i have with BF1 premium is that its now 4 expansions and not 5 like BF3/BF4

IndominusRex2799d ago

The problem i have is that it splits the playerbase, which harms the experience.

_-EDMIX-_2799d ago

I mean....not as much folks play the new maps as much as you might think bud. Last I heard as of 2014, 1.6 million even played with those maps......

out of 25 million.

I mean....I think you might be exaggerating this whole "split" thing. I'm still playing BF4 and I've never got the season pass, at this point...I really don't even plan to, got 300 hours, I'm moving on.

Nitrowolf22799d ago (Edited 2799d ago )

@ed

Doesn't that prove his point? Your response seems so contradicting

Aside from the normal decline of a games player base, don't you think that number would be much higher if it wasn't behind a paywall?

Unless I'm mistaken in the 25 million is in reference to how many people are subscribed.

InTheZoneAC2799d ago

I have no problems finding tons of players in regular or dlc maps in bf4 hardcore on ps4

Kingthrash3602799d ago

I have premium and I'll tell you now...most servers have no. Premium maps.....don't get me wrong tho, the premium maps get play...the og maps are some of the best...

indyman77772799d ago (Edited 2799d ago )

If you don't like it and you buy the game your a fool. Any of the game! A fool is a person that works against themselves, or their interest. EA and other companies care WAY more about how you vote with MONEY then with speaking! I guess in this case buying the game off the USED market as long as you dont buy any online content is also a good way to vote.

Hey EDMIX split means divide! So if your correct and only 1.6 out of 25 million played it that means that there is EVEN LESS TO SPLIT! For example if I split 25 million in half I have 12.5million, if I split 1.6 million in half I have 0.8 million! Which makes it even LESS people!

nitus102798d ago

This is EA we are talking about here and pretty much anything that EA publishes today is:

1) Behind a paywall.
2) Pay for DLC which should have been included in the original game.
3) Microtransactions.

The only thing we have not see is "Pay to Win" -- Yet!

xxjabberxx2798d ago

The problem I have is that it splits the game, which harms the experience. A La Destiny.

_-EDMIX-_2798d ago

@Nit-"Doesn't that prove his point?"

"I think you might be exaggerating this whole "split" thing"

ie the degree of, never said a split did't exist, of course your going to have those that are playing on different maps, merely that its not as big as a deal as many might be trying to make it out to be.

Again, its 1.6 million that got Premium vs 23.4 million that didn't. ie the vast majority by a lot don't actually play with those maps.

"Unless I'm mistaken in the 25 million is in reference to how many people are subscribed"

its how many bought BF4 across all platforms. Clearly not as many who bought it, bought Premium. Thats facts are irrefutable. Unless someone has the correct data, I could be wrong.

@InTheZone- "I have no problems finding tons of players in regular or dlc maps in bf4 hardcore on ps4" Well I only got the normal maps and only play Hardcore on PS4 so that might be why I've always had no issue finding folks to play with.

Maybe its harder to find folks on normal. Not sure. I'll try normal later today and see how long it takes.

Didn't know that. Maybe they might add more if they see strong sales. DICE supports their games really, really good, I hope they have 1 more in store for those who are fans of the Season Pass.

I'll have to see how I like BF1 for a few hundred hours before I think about a season pass.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2799d ago

Well then we know there wont be any "Re-made Map Pack" DLC like Back to Karkand and Second Assault lol. Or at least it would not really make sense if they did. As long as they deliver good DLC I fine with it and DICE usually does so Im sure it will be EPIC!

n4rc2799d ago

I loved back to karkand . Was missing bf2 at that point and was super fun to play those maps again..

I would have bought every bf2 map if they made them.. I get that people don't like it but I did.

vickers5002799d ago

This makes my decision on whether to buy this day one easier. Plenty of other games I don't have to spend 100 bucks on to get the full experience that are coming out.

lipton1012799d ago

Really. $100 to get the full experience? Give me a break. I'm buying it, I'll decide later if I want an expansion pack. Of which I probably won't. I still play battlefield 4 now and the majority of the servers run a vanilla map rotation anyway. I love how entitled people think they are. This is capitalism chief. Guess who cares about your embargo? (Hint Hint: nobody)

Darkwatchman2799d ago

Remember in the good old days when games launched with 15 or so multiplayer maps and anything less than 12 was considered not enough? Nowadays, games launch with 8-10 and the rest is overpriced paid dlc that might as well be used to get new games instead. EA most certainly is a publisher that epitomizes the very ideal of the incomplete experience.

This premium crap is the same reason I never got battlefield hardline or battlefield 4 until one day I saw BF 4 on sale along with the season pass for a total of $18. Best $18 I've ever spent.

Glad I didn't waste $110 on that meager amount of content considering over the course of roughly 100 hours of playtime in that game, there are still maps and modes I'll never touch because the very idea of a such a multiplayer focused game doling out overpriced dlc after overpriced dlc segments the player base and hurts the overall user experience for everyone.

vickers5002799d ago

Jeez, someones getting overly defensive.

And I'm entitled because I'm not buying a game at launch? How do you come up with that stupid logic?

And yes, 100 dollars for the full experience. To get the most out of multiplayer in any game, you need all the maps. And vanilla may be fun and great, but it's not going to be the full experience. At least in my opinion anyways. If you're happy spending 110 bucks on a multiplayer fps, or 60 on a multiplayer fps with 50% of the maps it will eventually launch with, then good for you, but there are a ton of other games coming out, games that dont incorporate these pricy practices, or if they do, they're MUCH cheaper. EA is also exactly the kind of people that care about my embargo, because it's my money (and every other gamer out there) they are going for.

And to you I say, yes, it is capitalism, which means I don't have to buy an overpriced half baked product if I don't want to. Deal with it.

BentheTurtle2799d ago

Premium is fine. The reality is that the cost of developing video games has skyrocketed in the last decade and the $60 price tag hasn't. Publishers and developers know that many consumers take issue with spending more than $60, so they try to create new and, hopefully, equally beneficial ways of making more money on their products. Hence, microtransactions, map packs, and season passes. Some of these attempted solutions are more volatile than others (microtransactions), but regardless the developers need for money in return if we are to expect these massive games to continue being made. I think the larger problem lies in the preordering of games and season passes before knowing details about the content or whether or not you'll be interested in playing more than what's offered on day one. This gives publishers a lot of leveraging power and does not communicate to them that we, as consumers, take issue will broken promises.

rocketpanda2798d ago

Oh spare us that is costs more to make games. Doesn't excuse games from being incomplete and calling that a full experience. This is EA, do you not remember Battlefront? How about dead space 3 adding microtransactions? Adding packs to their sports games? Taking dungeon keeper than making it a massive shite fest with paywall timers.

Yeah EA and their premium editions.

BentheTurtle2798d ago (Edited 2798d ago )

@rocketpanda

I am absolutely not excusing the release of incomplete games. The end of my post is in reference to that issue with its relation to preorders. As long as BF1 is a complete standalone package, then I don't see the issue with more maps. Either way, vote with your dollar! :)

PSN_ZeroOnyx2798d ago

I fully agree about growing costs vs. Pricing/profit. However games i know I want I will continue to preorder. As a Amazon Prime member I save 20% on all preorders which means I get $60 games for only $48.

OT I won't be wasting my money on another battlefield game, the only good one in my opinion was BC2.

BlackWolf122799d ago

You literally become one of the dumbest people in the room if you automatically assume that post launch DLC = an incomplete launch game.

2798d ago
Xxxharrybxxx2798d ago

I usually wait for premium to go on sale. I pre ordered the game. But will wait for premium to go on sale. Ea has good habits of putting dlc and games on sale.

slate912799d ago

People want the biggest maps, full destruction, 24/7 servers/customizable servers, no lag, daily maintenance, single player campaign, and will break the internet if its a pixel under 1080p....yet still want to only pay $60 lol

Nitrowolf22799d ago

Honestly I don't see the big issue

I get a lot of games do it for free but that's because they're accompanied buy a ton of microtransactions.

That is however my big issue

If history is to go buy anything Battlefield 1 is going to have some form of microtransaction and that I don't agree with only because you shouldn't be offering a season pass and microtransactions. I never liked it that practice because that's truly nickel and diming your customer

sullynathan2799d ago

Halo had most of these a couple years ago.

InTheZoneAC2799d ago

it seems many of you don't understand how much profit they make off the base $60 game. They have more than enough to carry for several games

slate912799d ago

Youre right I dont understand that. I figured they have hundreds of employees working for years on these games with the best technology available. Seems like $60 is low to me

DeeBeers2799d ago

people just want to be negative ninnys. little knowing that they can throw a tantrum all day. cant stop bf1 from being the best game this year. try as they might!

Becuzisaid2799d ago

Umm... They're listening to the people that keep buying the season passes. If people contrinue to purchase, they will continue to offer over priced season passes.

And I agree with Majin-Vegeta they shouldn't charge the same price for one less expansion.

Germany72799d ago

People still are defending this practice? LOL

Looks like EA is right to do it, people will accept it anyway.

TwoForce2799d ago

Like I said, It's EA after all.

DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 1 In The Next Game

For DICE to succeed with its next game, it has to return to the roots of the franchise. Atmospheric map design, clear and defined class-based gameplay, attention to detail, and total chaos. Battlefield 1 feels like every rock, every glint on your sniper rifle, every falling brick from a collapsing church, has been painstakingly considered. So much care went into the design of the game, from its soundtrack to its costume department. To stand a chance alongside the behemoths of Treyarch and Infinity Ward, DICE needs to recapture what made their old games so brilliant, otherwise it’s all over.

"DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 3 In The Next Game"

/Fixed

...on a serious note, DICE needs to remove the Battlefield name.

isarai528d ago

Eh, bfbc2 was the peak for me, only ad dogfighting and the accommodations that come with it. Every BF after that was such an unsatisfying progression system for weapons and gear for the classes, 90% of the guns feel exactly the same when you unlock them, just felt boring in comparison. Not to mention the gimped destruction as the series progressed

Sciurus_vulgaris528d ago

I found Battlefield 1 to be overrated. The gameplay was simpler and less strategic than its predecessors. Battlefield 1 did have a woo-factor, but the gameplay got repetitive faster than Battlefield 4 in my opinion.

porkChop527d ago

If DICE needs to return to the roots of the franchise then why would they look at Battlefield 1? BF1 is overly simplified and streamlined. What DICE should focus on is Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2. Those two games were the pinnacle of the franchise.

TheEnigma313527d ago

BC2 was the best. they need to get back to that.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot758d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250757d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface757d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop757d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno757d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel758d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps757d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888757d ago (Edited 757d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33757d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888757d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH757d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

Grabbed Panzer Dragoon, the Darkness, Conker Reloaded, Burnout Revenge, Time Splitters 2, Fight Night Champions, and Stuntman Ignition.

Essentially some of the classics that I can't get on PC, now that I have a Series S.
