Nintendo NX Chip Revealed?

According to industry insiders, The Nintendo NX will be sporting a Nvidia Pascal Tegra chip.

Abash2817d ago

Has this insider been proven to be credible?

bmf73642816d ago

If that's the case, it means great things for both Nvidia and Nintendo. Nvidia's Pascal series has proven its power with the Geforce GTX 1000-series, and given how powerful the K1(Kepler) in Nvidia's latest tablets and the X1(Maxwell) in the SHIELD console, Pascal is set to be a monstrous mobile CPU.

FlyingFoxy2816d ago

I really hope they are going to use the Tegra X2 chip, otherwise if they go with the X1 it will be so far behind the PS4 that developers may not want to bother (like the Wii U) so it may lack a ton of third party support again. I'm not doubting this might be a good system, but if Nintendo want to profit off this like they said then they should go with a good chip and not overcharge for a weaker one.

Hoping they are using analogue sticks and not circle pads this time as well as they are much much better.

DeadlyFire2813d ago

NVIDIA Tegra Pascal will be 6 cores. 2 bigger Generation 2 NVIDIA CPU cores + 4 ARM cores. Then well the GPU which should be somewhere along 2-4 Tflops. :P Knowing Nintendo though if that is the case I expect a modified chip with lesser GPU, but not to much lesser.

X1 wouldn't be bad either. It aims for 1 Tflops. Enough to hold onto bottom end of the PS4/XB1 gen and get 3rd party support. If its X2/Pascal though. Devs won't say no to trying it out.

I highly doubt this many rumors are fake dude.

Moonman2816d ago

If they make a super powerful portable that has clean image quality on a TV......I'll be excited. Why? The game library would be insane if Nintendo can pour all their resources into one console instead of always two (home and portable).

Idiedgoodbye2816d ago

I wonder if the dip will be bundled with those chips

"While this news doesn’t look like Nintendo will be competing with the upcoming releases of the PS4 Neo, and Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio next year, it’s still not terrible news"

Still not terrible news? Its absolutely great news, at this point in time it's not possible for any handheld to be as powerful as the upcoming premium consoles, if there was though it'd be incredibly expensive, it will however be the most powerful handheld on the market and this does suggest it will be able play current home console games like previously rumored.

EddieNX 2817d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Sonic 2017 is coming to it therefore it should be able to run any other multiplat also.

@ below Who cares if its slightly less powerfull than a Vanilla xbone? The thing is apparently portable, I've got an Xbone and its effing huge lol, hardly a fair comparison. The NX sounds bleeding edge for what it is, cred where its due.

gamerswin242816d ago

Lol as if Sonic 2017 will be a very demanding graphical game. Did you read what you posted? Very flawed, its another cartoony game that can run on anything. You ppl love to dream. Now if they said bf1 was scheduled to be nx release than yes, i would agree.

I just looked at your name lol now i know why you are making such comments of delusion lol it will be weaker than vanilla xbone and will in no shape or form play most multiplat games with parity just watered down versions.

Im still excited though due to alluded price and it being a strong handheld.

fox0072816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Them pascal GP100 are powerful end of and in my eyes more capable then Neo..plus neo is just for ps4 games not exclusives so it's bottlenecked by ps4 base model, basically better framerate versions of ps4 base games in ps4 neo,NX power is base model so devs can exploit it....

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-...

Plus it will have a dock maybe the dock adds more power ie SCD....basically allowing the pascal chip to run at higher frequencies who knows....maybe that's the idea they didn't want stealing off them...

Big_Game_Hunters2816d ago

@Fox the CPUs in the neo and scorpio are horrid so don't expect many framerate increases as much as resolution and visuals.

R6ex2816d ago

Somehow, I'm all excited about this upcoming MOBILE powerhouse! It will complement my home Monster PC rig very well.

It's only great news from a portable perspective. Anyone hoping for a competent home console is, yet again, out in the cold. NGC will go down as the last true Nintendo home console on par with the competition. This is Nintendo's 3rd strike; Wii was trash, Wii U was gutter trash, and NX is not a good home console if these rumors are true, and they are (though I am interested in it as a portable).

Face it, Nintendo is out of the home console business and this is their way to exiting quietly.

herbs2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

If the handheld is using Pascal 16nm Finfit Tegra chip than it is the X2 which will likely perform close to Xbox1 which is strait up beast for a portable, also makes a lot of sense for high detail graphics on a 720p screen. This could also mean the base houses Denver chips similar to the setup being used in new self driving vehicles. Those combined could easily reach PS4 level possibly Neo performance which is somthing to be excited about not to mention the potential supplemental computing device upgrade down the line. Even if none of this ends up happening it won't matter much because Nintendo pretty much always achieves more with less compared to other developers anyway.

joeorc2816d ago

@SSjDomon

[It's only great news from a portable perspective. Anyone hoping for a competent home console is, yet again, out in the cold.]

But; was it not one of the main problem's for Nintendo is that they could not get many 3rd party developers on board for their Living room console's?

I think in my opinion , that this actually plays into Nintendo's strengths in this case..being that a hybrid Mobile living room console design is geared to now be able to offer 3rd party Developers that mainly target the mobile PC and Tablet market a dedicated Platform where their games can flourish due to now having such a company that's like Nintendo brand power on a world wide market level to have such a platform for those development and Publisher's that may want such a platform.

I think this may infact allow Nintendo to carve itself out a sub section of the game market where Nintendo having the benefits of a platform like The 3DS but have an ability to serve what the goal of the OUYA was trying to obtain.

Even though OUYA pretty much did not build up enough marketable market share so to speak of..it did prove one thing that larger 3rd party publishers like Square gave it a go to see if it's Viable...with Nintendo offering such now but with a far larger brand power world wide..it may infact work very well in the market, of course there is no guarantee's in life that it will. But for me I think it may have a good chance to pull off such a platform in the market.

BullyMangler2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

But the ps4 has sold more than wiiU. Ps4 sales must mean ps4 exclusives are more full of spark, than wiiU exclusives.

No ?

heheh

please sLeep

fox0072816d ago

It's a Hybrid ie also a Home console so the dock might give it the extra boost....

WickedLester2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

@SSjDomon,

Let's be honest here though. Nobody is counting on this to be their primary gaming device anyway. I'd be willing to bet most here already own a PS4 or X1 and we're not looking towards the NX to replace those. I buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games and the types of games they make with their bright, cartoony art style aren't going to be overly demanding from a graphics standpoint anyway. The NX will provide more than enough performance to do their games justice. I will happily buy an NX to sit right along side my PS4. No matter how powerful my PS4 is, it still can't play Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Splatoon, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Haunted Mansion, Xenoblade, Star Fox, etc.

Moonman2816d ago

Don't talk trash about Wii U. It's a great library of games even if limited. Sorry but I had to do this to ya...lol

Negative, nx still wont be as powerful as vanilla xbone i dont know where these ppl get these claims lol let alone neo smh. Its still looks like its what weve all known an x1 tegra or modified version.

Wonderfulmonkeyfanboy...

This coming from a fanboy so in love any comment not painting Nintendo in a positive light he must run to his damsel in disress. Oh your infatuation and delusion is sickening. Ive been here long time and know you wear your captain nintendo cape proudly, oh how you have eaten crow proudly and disgracefully through the years you masochist lol go give Reggie a call lol

OpenGL2816d ago

The version of the Tegra X they keep comparing the NX to is in a device that uses active cooling. With the die shrink and move over to Pascal they might match the Shield's performance in a handheld but that would still make it weaker than an Xbox One. With that said, it would still probably be good enough to run multiplatforms and if it's really a portable device with a 720p screen, most people likely will not recognize the differences visually.

wonderfulmonkeyman2816d ago

This coming from the guy swallowing rumors, digesting them thoroughly, then pulling them out of his ass as facts when the console isn't even announced yet.

Like it doesn't matter, no one buys their console for battlefield and gta 5. Third party would still be hesitant to develop on their console even if it did have the same hardware as ps4 neo because they put so much focus on their first party games that third party games sell terrible on their system for the most part except for a few niche games.

Like I've seen people who buy a ps4/Xbox one who don't get uncharted 4 or halo 5 but I'VE NEVER seen a person buy a Nintendo Console and NOT buy a mario game lol...

Majin-vegeta2816d ago

Guess i'll be your first.bought a wii but no mario games or first party games for that matter.

gamerswin242816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Did you read what you wrote? So please tell me if 3rd party games dont matter wtf did so many millions not buy Wiiu? You Nintendo fanboys have really special logic lol People didnt buy it bcus it didnt have 3rd party games ppl wanted like gta, it was weak for its asking price and some ppl are just fed up of the same first party games being offered. I know your name well on here as well so i know your a fanboy to the core and will flip any news to nintendos favor and put blame on consumers lol

News flash every one didn't buy Mario it doesnt have a 100% attach rate lol

meche3342816d ago

if the nx has gta its even better. gta 5 on the go would be amazing

100% Exactly, if this does indeed turn out to be true with such a chipset in a Mobile device, I would be more than happy..I was more than happy last cycle when I purchased my PS3 and my sister purchased the xbox360.

I had access to all three last cycle, and this NX would be able to run games in performance that outperforms even a xbox360 or a PS3...

The fact it's completely mobile that also if true hooks up to the TV by HDMi, that's really a good thing for mobile devices today to have , my current smartphone today as well as my Tablet has HDMI output.. So having a Nintendo gaming Tablet be Equipped with such is going to allow Nintendo to court these 3rd party Mobile developers that may make games for Laptops and Tablets & Sustems like the nvidi shield now to mainly , have a system that is dedicated to the platform chipsets they like working with.

Mobile combined with living room console market I think will work , with Nintendo investing into it.

fanboysmackdown2816d ago

Where do you get that it will be able to play current console games? Rumor says, no backward compat......nice try though. Why don't you do some research before you spew drivel.

Kalebninja2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Rumor has been that it will be close to Xbone in power so it would be able to play current gen but only if it uses the new Tegra X2 or a custom chip based off the new Tegra, this article here claiming it will use Pascal means it will not being using the TX1 which means it will be using a new chip which like i said is most likely the new chip which has yet to be unveiled or one based off it. Also I mentioned nothing about backwards compatability, so how about you do some research.

I think the NX is shaping up to be quite exciting. If it can run PS4 and Xbox one ports then Nintendo is on to a winner. Some people are genuinely expecting it to match a Scorpio or a Neo and that's just rather stupid if you ask me.

A hybrid console powerful enough to run current gen games = exciting

King_Lothric2816d ago

You are assuming it will have third party support. One thing Is of it can run PS4 ports and another if third parties are going to support this handheld which judging by history, they don't fully support Nintendo anymore.

EddieNX 2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

The Wii and Wiiu were both bottlenecked by lack of power which is the reason not a lot of multiplats made it to those systems.

Now if a dev can easily shove their ps4/xbone games onto NX then i'm sure lots more third party devs will do just that. Look at Sonic for example, its possible

@Edmix Since when did the Vita have good support? Its practically been taken off the shelves here in the UK. Also there's a handheld called the 3DS which has the best japanese third party support, can't see all them ditching the NX.

herbs2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

If the NX is successful 3rd parties will invest, it's that simple, more about money than anything else.

_-EDMIX-_2816d ago

@eddie- I cannot say that is the reason behind third parties not supporting the Wii U , you have to factor that the PlayStation Vita is clearly weaker than the current platforms yet it's still getting support it's actually getting lots of titles that are not coming to the Wii U, the reason why both those platforms like lots of support is because of their difficult and expensive architecture it's actually why the crew skipped the PlayStation 3 yet is on 360 it has everything to do with the ease of the architecture.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 , Resident Evil 0 and 2002 remastered, world of Final Fantasy and a whole lot of titles did not come to the Wii U yet ironically went to PlayStation 3 , 360 even the Vita as opposed to the Wii U, it had nothing to do with power it had everything to do with an expensive architecture.

If your reasoning is true how do you explain PlayStation Vita getting more support from some developers then the Wii U?

How do you explain that there are several notable releases that are coming out for PlayStation Vita that are actually not coming out on the Wii U, that are also coming to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?

Just because of developer "can" doesn't mean they will.....

Once again could you please explain why we had literally a huge list of titles that were coming to Playstation 4,3 ,360 Xone and Vita that were not coming to the Wii U?

Power? You sure about that? I'm pretty positive it doesn't take that much power to run I am setsuna or World of Final fantasy etc.

Possible doesn't mean every company is going to jump out of the Woodworks and spend more money on expensive architecture just to produce a port, they didn'tfor the Wii or even the Wii U why on Earth would they for Nintendo's new platform? Once again consider the PlayStation Vita sold just as poorly as the Wii U and it is getting more games by notable releases in comparison.

Wii U is not getting some of the games that are appearing on last gen platforms and Playstation Vita.....

The reason is not solely power as there's a lot of examples that disprove what you're talking about please evaluate what you're saying and come back with a better theory.

The Wii U is very much stronger than the PlayStation Vita....

battletrax2816d ago

@EddieNX Sonic's been on nintendo platforms since Nintendo and Sega made sweet love in the back of their Cadillac.

Whymii2816d ago (Edited 2815d ago )

@EDMIX

You raise some good points, but I think you have to also look at where most of those games coming on the Vita were made. Handhelds do well in Japan and the Vita has sold reasonably there. Not stunning, but they're not the rare beasts they are in other countries and it has outsold the WiiU in Japan.

For a home console, I think the lack of power and non X86 architecture did the initial damage with developers and publishers who then dropped their support of the WiiU. This then led to a poor start to sales, which then led to even less support, which led to less sales, etc, etc, etc. Nintendo were also slow in supporting it, which compounded the problem even more.

mcstorm2816d ago

Your spot on. At the end of the day Nintendo have not had 3rd party support fully since the snes. They know that they can't compete with Sony and Microsoft in terms of the home console but they are untouchable so to speak in the handheld market. I am kind of hoping Nintendo offer the NX as 2 consoles. The handheld on its own for around £199 and with a TV dock for £299. I also hope the dock has a disk drive for Wiiu games to.

We still don't know a lot about the NX but I cant wait to see what they show. For me I am not interested in VR which is the way Sony are going Microsoft are bringing xbox and windows closer which for me is great as I've just got a gaming laptop but also have an xbox one and nintendo are going handheld with a home dock so all 3 are going different directions and giving us different choices which is what I want in gaming.

feraldrgn2816d ago

Agreed on the 2 consoles option, I'm not fussed about an upscaler or power box for playing on the big screen but I'd love a more impressive handheld from Nintendo as long as it's not a pad/tablet.

joeorc2816d ago

@EddieNX

[A hybrid console powerful enough to run current gen games = exciting]

Absolutely agree, what I think many are overlooking is if you break down time line for the advancements in Mobile computing , what's exciting is that if many would stop to think about this very simple point..that mobile chipset can run such a high quality game as GrandTheft Auto 5..that pretty much means that even when starting this current game console cycle, that unlike in past cycles..the Mobile chips with a fairly low entry cost to buy in can run such Game's on a mobile device.

And when GTA5 was ported to the new consoles that we have today, it's getting close to the very simple but blunt truth.

It may not be exactly parity hardware for Hardware, but it is now viable for developers to now include the game that they make what used to only be PC and or Console only...but now can include And or Mobile devices now.

Just think in such a short time really we are talking about less than 10 years time we now have compute clustering on a mobile mobo!

It's a very significant advancement, due to the fact in very simple terms we now have moved on from single Core executing compute platforms being the majority to now multi core compute Executing to now even compute clustering being the new norm..I mean Beowulf clustering is really nothing new, but again when now even your mobile devices are joining such HPC computing , it's changed the landscape.

fox0072816d ago

If NX is using Pascal GP100 then it will get superior games over ps4/neo as NX power is all there to expolit because it is the base model so all that power can be used unlike neo which is just for framerates and texture upgrades....

With NX rumored to be a portable/handheld I'm curious to see how they balance this out.

I mean buying a NX means you have both systems right?

Will handheld games only work on the go?

Alot of questions, no answers from Nintendo.

Pookandpie2816d ago

"Alot of questions, no answers from Nintendo."

What do you expect? These are all leaks from, "sources" with the official announcement on the horizon. Surely you don't expect them to address every single rumor that has been flying around since last year with a confirmed yes or no?

Aenea2817d ago

Yeah, read that a couple of days ago somewhere else, I think it was Eurogamer actually, the same site that reported about Scorpio and Neo before others did.

Anyhoo, could be interesting, something totally different than the other two!

Tho, it does make me wonder about something else, AMD said that they are making 3 custom console chips and of one they said it's for the Scorpio, the other two they couldn't talk about, since the One S is already coming out really soon they could've talked about that one too so that is not one of the remaining two. Of course the Neo is one, but what's the 3rd? Please tell me we have a new contender coming! That would be so awesome!

herbs2816d ago

The answer is in your question... XboxS, Scorpio and Neo are all considered new design wins for AMD.

Aenea2816d ago

Except AMD was not willing to divulge any info about the other 2 designs hence why I said it can't possibly be the X1S since that one is releasing soon and we know more about it than even the Scorpio...

Great to see the gaming market improve. I remember like 20 years ago, gaming was a fair bit less popular. I remember when I lived in Canada, it really surprised me just how mainstream gaming was over there compared to the UK.
